Out of the ones I have read, I would suggest That was Then, This is Now or One of us is Lying for a stand alone. Unless you want to go all in and read Harry Potter.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I really like Lord of the Flies. It's a really dark take on humanity, but the symbolism is very well done.
It isn't on your list, but I always recommend The Princess Bride. It's funny, bizarre, quirky, dramatic, and memorable. :)

hope that helps! :)

'Tis not just you.

The Apology, Phaedo and Crito of Plato; The Golden Sayings of Epictetus; The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius
A Man Called Ove
The Sun Is Also a Star
I ditched Harry Potter after about 3 or 4 books.

Much. I know people who gave up after the first book or two, and it saddens me to hear. Finish the series. I think you'll be very happy you did.

LOL you didn't enjoy Cursed Child either, huh?

Agreed. The Harry Potter books get so much more complex past the first few. For instance, currently my favourite is book five (where we meet one of my favourite characters!). One aspect that I really enjoyed was the multiple layers of conflict; we have man vs. man in a few cases, with Harry facing his enemies. We have man vs. society because the government opposes Harry. We have man vs. fate as well, and it is packed with man vs. self conflict.

5 is a good one. My favorite is 6.

The Final Empire and The Amulet of Samarkand are among my most favorite books.
The Broken Girls and The Casual Vacancy were quite good, though many don’t like Casual Vacancy. It’s definitely not YA.

I agree The Final Empire is amazing. I also loved Cinder and The Book Thief

I looked at much of your list but not all. In this order, I recommend
GONE GIRL
YOU
THE LOVELY BONES

Mistborn
The Graveyard Book &
Paper Towns

I have actually read The Broken Girls and We Were Liars was a recent read of mine.
So this is the list of books that I own that you guys have recommended so far:
The Amulet of Samarkand
Cinder
The Book Thief
You
The Lovely Bones
The Graveyard Book
Paper Towns
(I don't actually have a copy of Gone Girl, I can't find it unfortunately.)
As for the advice on duplicates, THANK YOU SO MUCH! It drives me insane.
