The goal of this challenge is to journey from the 9th to 20th century of literary history. Each century has a set of four tasks. Depending on your desired level, you will complete a number of these book tasks in order to reach the next century. Each century centers around a book or genre written or completed at the time.

*This is an individual challenge. I will create a thread for each person.*

Levels:
Deckhand - Complete 1 task per century
Bosun - Complete 2 tasks per century
First Mate - Complete 3 tasks per century
Captain - Complete all 4 tasks per century

Rules:
- Sign up begins: June 1st.
- Duration: at your own pace.
- Minimum of 100 pages per book.
- Book must be read after each century is posted to qualify to complete a task.
- Rereads & buddy reads permitted.
- If you are stuck on a century, you are allowed two task skips.
- When signing up state desired level.

When you complete a task, comment with this form.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 288 comments I'm sorry, but I don't understand this at all. What is it that we're supposed to do? What are the tasks? What are the time limits? I can't sign up for something if I don't know all the particulars, it would be like signing an important contract without reading the fine print.

Instead of new threads, can't we just link everyone and put the link in the first post and just use this thread?

It needs to be an individual challenge by the way it is set up.
You dont know the tasks until you reach the next century. Thats the fun. Everyone reads at their own pace so it would be a mess if I put it in one thread. If you would like to see an example I can include my personal link to a challenge that has the style it is inspired by. The threads are public so feel free to see others when the challenge starts after the 1st to see if you are still interested. Sign up is at ANY TIME after the 1st.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 288 comments oh no thanks, but have a great time!
I would find it highly stressful & upsetting not to know what was expected of me ahead of time, so I would not find it fun,
but that's part of my condition - for better or worse!

It should be fun. I am putting on some finishing touches.
I added crystals. So after each century you will earn a crystal that I will have displayed on your personal thread.

For example this is the crystal for completing the fifteenth century.

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 288 comments oh if we're all going to be reading (just about) the same book, yes I would like to play too, please!

I have a copy of The Arabian Nights so would like to start reading it in the challenge! It has 1049pp and contains the complete set of tales. But i'm not positive I can finish it in a month. I can try though!

I would like to go for Captain, aye aye!

There is no discussion thread. If the participants want me to create a discussion thread I can.

Each century has set tasks. You dont need to read that centuries book to move on. You complete the number of tasks you chose before moving on to the next century which has different tasks and a different central book or theme.

Here is the challenge broken down.
-You pick a level & start the challenge.
-You read book/s that complete X amount of the tasks depending on your level.
-Once you complete them by posting the completion post, I post the next century with the next set of tasks.

Completion Post
Book Read:
Date Read:
Task:
Explain How it Fits:

I am leaving my personal thread to a challenge to show you guys a similiar format of how the challenge goes.
Example
