Tonie | 9 comments Hello, everyone!!

Do you all have any suggestions for books that would make for nice, wholesome summer reading? I'm not very particular as long as it's clean! I appreciate any recommendations! Thank you!! :)

message 2: by Carolyn (new)

Carolyn | 13 comments I haven't read either myself, but the Maise Dobbs series or the Flavia de Luce series might work.

message 3: by Tonie (new)

Tonie | 9 comments Thank you for sharing, Carolyn! I'll check them out! :)

The Flipped Page (Susan K) (theflippedpage) | 48 comments Torie, if you don't mind Christian faith elements, I just finished Denise Hunter's Summer by the Tides
Summer by the Tides by Denise Hunter
Loved it! Family drama, romance, forgiveness, and really put together well.
If you haven't read any of Sariah Wilson's books, she has a bunch of social media based novels that are really fun:
#Starstruck (#Lovestruck, #1) by Sariah Wilson
#Moonstruck (#Lovestruck #2) by Sariah Wilson
#Awestruck (#Lovestruck #3) by Sariah Wilson
The Friend Zone by Sariah Wilson
I have loved hers. Some of them are a little bit more suggestive than I normally read (not explicit, but more PG-13 for some sensuality)
The Belltown series is really cute and fun!
Charming the Shortstop (Belltown Six Pack #3) by Heather B. Moore
Falling for Centerfield (A Belltown Six Pack Novel) by Sophia Summers
Kissing on Third (Belltown Six Pack #6) by Heather B. Moore
Flirting With First (A Belltown Six Pack Novel Book 5) by Sophia Summers
Hitching the Pitcher (A Belltown Six Pack Novel) by Rebecca Connolly
Snatching the Catcher (A Belltown Six Pack Novel) by Rebecca Connolly
I think I am just in love with the covers on this series!
Not all of them have been released yet, but a fun sports series with a baseball backstory (all players from a winning college team that have gone on to play in the major leagues)
Timeless Romance series are all fun. I love most anything that they write. I will add some more!

Tonie | 9 comments Thank you very much, Susan!! I AM a Christian, as a matter of fact, so I really appreciate your recommendations!! :)

message 6: by Jen (new)

Jen | 38 comments I like Denise Hunters book. If you like Christian fiction, Colleen Cobles books are very good! Happy Reading!!

message 7: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccanorth) | 7 comments A few "summery" books I have enjoyed are:
The Summer of Broken Things by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Chasing Jupiter by Rachel Coker
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society (LARGE PRINT) by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
Greensleeves by Eloise Jarvis McGraw
The Penderwicks A Summer Tale of Four Sisters, Two Rabbits, and a Very Interesting Boy (The Penderwicks #1) by Jeanne Birdsall
The Light Princess by George MacDonald
Edenbrooke (Edenbrooke, #1) by Julianne Donaldson
The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery
Anne of Green Gables (Anne of Green Gables, #1) by L.M. Montgomery
(or any of L . M . Montgomery's books)

I hope you can find something that suits your taste, Tonie!

message 8: by Tonie (new)

Tonie | 9 comments Thanks for the suggestions, ladies, they're very helpful!! ^_^ It's funny you should mention L.M. Montgomery, Ms. Becca! Anne of Green Gables happens to be my all-time favorite novel!! ^_^

message 9: by Becca (new)

Becca (beccanorth) | 7 comments That's interesting, Tonie! You're quite welcome. :)

message 10: by Marlo (new)

Marlo | 19 comments I have a strong dislike of constant swearing and gratuitous sex, but I will tolerate a few words here and there and some sexual suggestiveness (as long as it's seldom) if it's a good story. With that understanding, some of these are squeaky clean and some aren't.

The Mitford Series, Dead Wake, anything by Charles Martin, A Gentleman in Moscow, The Nightingale, The Forgotten Garden, The Galway Chronicles by the Thoenes, America's First Daughter, Cheaper by the Dozen, Before We Were Yours, Abigail Adams: Witness to a Revolution, Susannah Kearsley books. Hope that gives you a few suggestions you've not read.

message 11: by Tonie (new)

Tonie | 9 comments Thank you very much, Marlo! I did read the Mitford series, which was simply excellent! I'll have to check out the others!! :)

message 12: by Shanna (new)

Shanna Delaney | 2 comments So fun to see "The Blue Castle" mentioned up there! That's my favorite L.M. Montgomery book--yes, even more than Anne, though I do adore her.

I you like romantic adventure/suspense (heavier on the adventure side than the suspense), one of my favorite reads of the year so far is this one by Stephanie Fowers.
In the Pursuit of Eden by Stephanie Fowers

I also loved this one by Melanie Jacobsen.
Finding Jack (A Fairy Tale Flip Book 1) by Melanie Jacobson

My books are also clean.
Finding Love in Florence (Love Takes Flight, #1) by Shanna Delaney

Sorry they didn't show up, Cathleen. The one by Stephanie Fowers is "In the Pursuit of Eden." I also love her book "Jane & Austen," which is fun if you're a Jane Austen fan, because it's a contemporary romance but with SO many references to all different Austen books.
Jane and Austen

Marlene | 19 comments “The Ragged Edge of Night” if you’re a fan of WWII books.

Proper Romance has a good group of books. I love theirs!
Do you have a favorite genre or type of novel that you like to read? I have so many! I love to read and am always in search of something...

message 20: by Tonie (new)

Tonie | 9 comments Hello, Susan, thank you very much for your recommendation! :)

That's a good question!! I never can decide which genre is my favorite; I like so many things! However, when it comes to fiction, I often have to settle for children's literature since it can be so difficult to find compelling adult fiction these days that's not riddled with foul language and adult situations. Heh heh, it's a challenge!! That's why I'm glad I found this Clean Reads Book Club! :)

The Flipped Page (Susan K) (theflippedpage) | 48 comments Proper Romance series is committed to clean romance! You should definitely try them!
Most of what I read, I always rate for content. Usually no language or scenes above PG-13.
Let me know a genre that you like most and I can make some recommendations for you! Feel free to follow me if you want.
Some favorite authors if you want some recommendations:
Christian suspense:
Susan May Warren
Susan May Warren
Traci Hunter Abramson

Clean YA
Kasie West
Kasie West
edgier, maybe more PG-13 for some of hers:
Sariah Wilson
Sariah Wilson
Also, Timeless Romance has a bunch of novellas grouped into themed books that are fun. They always come out with new ones, contemporary, and also period series.
Melanie Jacobson
Melanie Jacobson
Melanie Jacobson has both LDS/Christian books and contemporary romance (not linked to any faith). Her newest one
Finding Jack
Finding Jack (A Fairy Tale Flip) by Melanie Jacobson
and also
Wedding Belles A Novel in Four Parts by Melanie Jacobson
Wedding Belles: A Novel in Four Parts
Painting Kisses
Painting Kisses by Melanie Jacobson
Are some of my favorite reads. She has some subtleties to her writing that are really fun, and is more about character insight and growth along with the romance. She writes some great scenes and has some fun vocabulary in her writing (I love reading her works, there is always a treasure for a reader to find if you are into that kind of thing, and some perfect moments.)
I can go on and on.

Tonie | 9 comments Thank you so much, Susan!! You're very thoughtful!! :) I've begun following you, and will definitely pick your brain for specific genres when they come to mind! Thanks again!!! ^_^

message 23: by J.P. (new)

J.P. Choquette (jpchoquette) Just recommended this book on another thread in this group but These Blue Remembered Hills by Michele Deppe by Michele Deppe was very clean. If you've enjoyed family dramas like those by Rosamund Pilcher, you'd likely fall in love with this author's work. It's set in England, has a lot of "wholesomeness" to it and is quite clean.

message 24: by Tonie (new)

Tonie | 9 comments Thank you, J.P.!! Everyone has been very helpful!! :)

The Flipped Page (Susan K) (theflippedpage) | 48 comments Just read Suffering the Scot
Suffering the Scot (Brotherhood of the Black Tartan Book 1) by Nichole Van
Loved this one, and also:
Midsummer Night (A Timeless Romance Anthology Book 23) by Charlie N. Holmberg
Midsummer Night
Both were clean, well-written
The Midsummer Night is a series of novellas. Great for people like me who can't put a book down and go to sleep!
