Demi Spelbos | 18 comments Hi guys! I'm currently deciding on which book I should read next. I've just finished a Storm of Swords, which is a very heavy and long fantasy, so I kind of want to read something different now.

I've got a couple of options:
1. Battle Royale by Houshun Takami
2. Outlander by Diana Gabaldon
3. The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
4. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
5. Chine Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan

After reading a George RR Martin book, I often get into a slump, so please help me avoid that lmao.

Elyse (winesaboutbooks) Definitely wouldn't dig into Outlander if you've just finished another mammoth book. Though I do highly suggest reading it at some point!! It's one of my favorite series! If you're looking to jazz things up, go with Gone Girl for a thriller. If you're looking for something light, go with China Rich Girlfriend. Battle Royale was awesome but SUPER dark. A lot of violence. And lastly I really enjoyed the Raven Cycle books so if you're up for some modern-day fantasy, I would go with The Raven Boys. :)

Thank you for the great tips! I think I'll dive into the Raven Boys and follow up with Gone Girl to sort of prepare me for the thrill and violence in Battle Royale lmao.

Anne (shapeyoursmile) Definitely the Raven Boys! It's simultaneously light and fun but also mesmerizing. It was one of those books were I just didn't expect anything and was then blown away. I still want to reread it sometime soon!

Catherine | 392 comments Well, I only read one of those five books: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. It's a great thriller, dark like I like them, with great twists, a unique plot, a real study of the characters she created. I only heard about this author when the movie came out and even if I read the book after watching the adaptation, I still really liked it.

Zara (zara124) | 15 comments Outlander - I loved it but it is pretty lengthy so maybe not the best choice but I can definitely vouch for Raven Boys. It's light and easy to read.
