I manage to finish two books this week. Hope you get some reading in soon. Any books you're really enjoying at the moment?

message 14: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Janessa, I am glad you were able to read two books, what did you think of them?

I have a tendency to read multiple books at a time. Right now 3 of the books I am reading are very long. Of those three, I am enjoying Neal Stephenson's new book: Fall, or Dodge in Hell, the most.

I finished five books and I'm really happy with that.
I need to start reading from my physical TBR shelf though.

Of the two I finished Enchanted (Woodcutter Sisters #1; Books of Arilland #1) by Alethea Kontis was my favorite. I like fairy tells and retellings, so it was right up my alley. It was an audiobook and the narrator was really good. The other book All For One (Alex & Eliza #3) by Melissa de la Cruz was just okay for me. Kind of disappointed in how that series ended, but that's just me.

I too tend to read multiple books at once, when that happens I get overwhelmed. That's why I'm only focusing on one book at a time. Right now I'm reading The Anatomist's Wife (Lady Darby Mystery, #1) by Anna Lee Huber . If you want a good historical mystery with an intelligent heroine I highly recommend this one.

We have 10 days left in June, how is everyone doing?"

Really, where does the time go?!?"

I know, and pretty soon we'll be asking where the summer went."

93 days left! I am not a fan of summer so I'm counting down.

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments So, I have a question. We've now done 2 month-long read-a-thons, should we continue, or is it too much of a good thing, with all of the other options?

Good question! I love read-a-thons as it pushes me to sit down and read a little each day. I actually feel guilty if I don't read any. PLUS I have books here at home I NEED to get through.

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I like monthly readathons, it's like a reading logbook :-)

I like it for that reason as well.

Agreed.

Even though no one probably looks at my reading, I feel embarrassed when I write "no reading" for the day. That makes me push harder to get more done!

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Leane, I think what you are saying is another issue I've think about. I have enjoyed the month-long, but is it too stressful, too much thinking about reading every day? Even if it is not meant to be stressful in any way.

One of the things that I love about this group is that there is no right or wrong to how read-a-thons are approached. Believe me, I have participated in groups where read-a-thons have such a strict structure that I ended up leaving the group.

I do love that this is a casual group. I've seen some groups were the rules are so complicated it becomes a full time job to be part of things!
I like to make reading a priority, but I also want to enjoy it. And I have a full time job that keeps me plenty busy.

Maybe we could do an every other month RAT? Although I do like the month, it also keeps my accountable. (And as I'm thinking about it I do like the accountability and don't feel stressed.) Like I said, no one is looking at my daily reading and questioning me. We aren't in a competition.

And I'm done babbling now. LOL

Leticia (leticiatoraci) I don't care about writing "no reading done" for a day. Everybody has a life and I am extremely busy. I read when I rest and sometimes I rather watch a dvd or go swimming, especially in summer there are tons of other things to do, so in summer I usually don't do any especially themed readathon. So, no stress or guilt with the reading log indeed.

stephanie (disneygirl) To those of you that think no one looks at your reading...... I do. ;) Not exactly at how much you're reading but what you are reading. One of my faults is not sticking with one book. As it is right now I am reading Scarlet and have probably read 2 other books in full since starting this one. If I see a book someone else is reading that I have struggled with I like to pick it back up and hope some conversation will get me to finish. Not to mention I just like to see what everyone is reading :) I love this group!!!!

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Thanks for you input everyone!

I love seeing what everyone is reading as well (because I am nosy, I am one of those people that has to see what people are reading on the subway). I have picked up many books because I have seen someone reading them.
I don't stick to a TBR and I don't finish many of the books I have started (I start way too many).

message 39: by Leane (new)

Leane I also look at what everyone's reading. Love getting ideas or seeing if we've read the same books.

Leticia (leticiatoraci) A suggestion: Some readathon threads have a link of all participants at the first post so you can jump to your post if you are only updating it quickly and don't want to look for your message.

I loved that. I miss they it's not really being done anymore.

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I'm going to try it with my post, and see if it works.

Well, I know how to make the link, but mmm... I wonder if you have to be a moderator to do the links

Maybe ask one of the moderators? If anyone can do it maybe they can tell you how.

Leticia (leticiatoraci) Are we doing such a readathon thread for July?

message 45: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments Sure, we can. We can always decide later if having one each month is too much. I'll set it up on Sunday.

message 46: by Karen (new)

Karen (karinlib) | 2108 comments I cannot believe June is almost over! I hope everyone has enjoyed their reading this month, and thanks for joining me.

I have set up a new thread for July. I look forward to seeing what I will be able to accomplish next month, since I will be very busy.
