Interview with author Ram Kishan Chauhan, author of Nature of Mind, published by Bluerose Publishers Qn : Tell us about yourself. I completed my degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh in 1968. During college days apart from cultural activities and debates, I was active in sports and enjoyed table tennis and outdoor sports like swimming. Soon after completing the degree course I joined DRDO in 1969 as a scientist. I served DRDO and Ministry of Defence in various capacities. My area of work included prototype development of aero engine, quality control, airworthiness of aircraft and aircraft accident investigations. During service time I completed my M Tech from IIT Kanpur. I consider it my good fortune of having the opportunity to work with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam during my posting in New Delhi. I retired as Scientist G and Director from DRDO in 2006. Post retirement I am serving as Professor in Amity Institute of Aerospace Engineering at Amity University, Noida Uttar Pradesh. I am fond of Urdu poetry. I enjoy the subtlety of emotions and expressions in urdu poetry. My main interest lies in the ever intriguing human behaviour. It always puzzled me how human nature works. I deeply feel that human life is a spiritual journey and on this path I have had the grace of being guided by spiritual masters. Teachings of spiritual saints like Raman Maharishi, Prem Rawat and Buddha have deeply influenced my life. My book, ‘Nature of Mind’ is an endeavour to help people and aspirants to avoid pitfalls and traps in their spiritual journey. Qn2 : If not being an author, what was your dream in life? Apart from engineering, writing poetry, learning and reading about spiritual experiences of great saints, I have interest in social re-engineering, social harmony, contribute towards removing of disparities in my immediate society. Following the philosophy of Plato i.e. it is better to educate the king than the masses. I dream of a day when the educators, administrators and advisors who design policies and laws for society and countries are spiritually aware beings and impart holistic values to society. Qn3: Who do you attribute your success to? I wish to express my gratitude to my parents, my teachers, my gurus, friends and well wishers who have helped me in different stages of my life. My greatest fortune has been guidance of Shree Raman Maharishi. Qn4. Any message you would like to give to your readers? My message to the readers is that we should not become slave of our mind. We can enjoy our lives better by being the true master of our mind and not falling into the traps of deceit that our thoughts weave day in and out. Transforming our nature leads us to our own understanding of who we really are. This book is a testimony to the fact that challenging situations in our life are only stepping stones to understanding ourselves better.
