Let's discuss!

William Stanger (wcs53) | 28 comments I’m really enjoying the way the story is developing. I’m starting to find it hard to put down. Life seems to be getting more difficult and complicated for Andrew. Now he’s lost the one ‘real’ person that he was almost close to. He admits to having had an undeniable bond with his sister, but it seems to have been a really strained relationship. I’m not sure what to make of Carl, the brother-in-law, and who is this Rachel, his ‘best friend’. I’m interested to see where all of this goes. It seems strange that Andrew had to stay in a B&B for the week of the funeral. Peggy seems to be like a breath of fresh air in Andrew’s life. The letter from Carl telling Andrew about the will is very intriguing. I wonder how all of that is going to pan out.

Deborah (debh56) | 63 comments I found it sad that Andrew was so disconnected from his sister, but it’s understandable. I didn’t have warm feelings for her. I don’t know what Carl’s story is, but I don’t like him either. Peggy is good for Andrew and I’m hoping he’ll begin to confide in her. Andrew’s social anxiety is painful to read about. Maybe Peggy will be able to help Andrew become more accepting of himself. I don’t want the book to end with him being in so much pain.

deana everett | 124 comments I can so relate to Andrew. Small talk is excruciating, even with a real live family to talk about. I don’t like Carl at all—I think he’s a horrible person and so think he and Rachel are much more than friends. Sally was an abandoned and an abused. Andrew should not feel guilty about their relationship or about her leaving him the money. She probably knew Carl was cheating on her. This is a very depressing book. I do like Peggy and agree she is a breath of fresh air!

I with all of you and how sad Andrew's current state is. He's virtually alone now, Carl is a jerk, and Peggy seems to be a glimmer of hope for him.

I'm intrigued with how the music is becoming a theme in the book. It's a nice distraction.

Nina (neensreads) | 10 comments Yes, I agree with everyone's sentiment as well on Andrew's current state. Although, I am really enjoying the banter between Peggy and him. He really seems to be more talkative around her. We have yet to meet her family, so I am wondering if she may be pulling the same charade Andrew is.

Dai Guerra (unconventionalquirkybibliophile) | 13 comments Im shocked by the events that happened in this chapter. Andrew's sister passing away was sudden and out of nowhere but the title of the book makes sense now since he really is alone. I really want him to confide in Peggy and form a bond in which he feels comfortable telling her his truth.

It shocked and saddened me too. Especially when he had unresolved issues with her. That’s so sad.
