I just read the blurb and it seems heavy. I don't know if I'll ever be ready for that D:

His Banana is definitely a much lighter read

Yes! I'm thinking Her Bush is my favourite title xD

It was definitely heavy, but very well-written and I thought it dealt with the topic very sensitively.

I think I'm gonna dip my toes into His Banana now 😂

All this talk makes me curious about the book. I keep saying that I want to take more of a step away from YA but there are so many interesting books that keep popping up.

message 306: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I've been avoiding new YA fantasy for the past year or so because they kept disappointing me & I'm pretty happy with that decision. But I am still going strong with the contemporaries and if I venture out of contemporary, I mostly read authors I've read before and "trust".

Nomination for next back room BOM perhaps? ha!"

Ok, I give in. Just grabbed it. If it comes up as BOM I may even read it, lol.

You could always go ahead and suggest it as a nomination?? ;-)

I hope you guys like the book! But I’d understand if you don’t

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments OMG... Definitely His Banana (Objects of Attraction, #1) by Penelope Bloom has to be the next back room BOM.

I should nominate some Space Smut, bwahahahahaha..

It certainly sounds better than the current back room BOM!

Well, I normally read 6 or 7 books per week, so if I only clock in 2 or 3 this week, it's much below what I've committed to.

There's always upcoming weeks to catch up, and besides, numbers are an estimate and fluctuate, especially during challenges.

I'm already reading one more than I committed to, so one less book you have to worry about ;-) They're short but oh well.

Woohoo! E character in the back room BOM. It’s free and the conversation is a hoot if anyone else wants to join us 😉👍

PHEW! Would have finished sooner, but have been down with a bug these past two days. Just managed to keep the first food down since Saturday! Huzzah for small victories, lol.

Do we get the next sneak peek at our next letter tomorrow?

Camilla | 1885 comments Uhh, a stomach bug is the worst! I rather take three colds instead of one stomach bug.

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Camilla wrote: "Uhh, a stomach bug is the worst! I rather take three colds instead of one stomach bug."

You and me both! lol.

message 322: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments We've been lucky in that our children have navigated more towards flus and ear infections than stomach bugs. I remember one time when our older daughter had a stomach bug, she was maybe 4 or 5 years. Hubby was away, daughter was sleeping in our bed, and she just kept falling asleep and throwing up half asleep, so no chance of getting to the toilet. Sometime during the night I gave up on getting clean sheets, pillows or anything like that, just folded a clean towel under her after every time she threw up. I probably did laundry for three days afterwards. Ughh!

message 323: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments Yech! Not much fun. It's bad enough as an adult, but so much worse with kids (and I have a stupidly weak stomach... Someone vomits in earshot, never mind in line of sight, and I end up joining them...).

Luckily my daughter is staying with her boyfriend and won't be here until next week, at which point hopefully everything has blown over, and my son has the constitution of an ox. :)

message 324: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13647 comments Mod
Stomach bugs are no fun at all :-/

For me, it's less the sound than the smell of vomit... When I smell it, I could hurl right there and then. Funnily enough though, at one of the worst house parties at uni, I was the one holding a friend's hair back while she had her head in the bowl haha. Didn't bother me in the least then, but now... I think my nose got much more sensitive since then.

Any preferences?

Could really do with an adventure book, lol.

message 327: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13647 comments Mod
Actually, yes, I wouldn't mind adventure either. Then I could continue with a series I recently started :-)

message 328: by Kristel (new)

Kristel | 287 comments Either adventure or LGBT. Those two are probably what are currently easiest for me. Honestly, as long it's not shifters or new adult I'll find something. I don't think I'm able to find anything for them😅

message 329: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Yeah, those are my favorites too - let's hope the wheel does us good!

message 330: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments No preference. The ones I'm currently reading and will not finish before the end of first week work for adventure and horror.

message 331: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments I have shifters, but they're smaller books. But I guess I could do two if that came up as a category.

Classics work for me too at the moment :)

message 332: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13647 comments Mod
Shifters are usually easily doable for me. I enjoy reading shifter books so I have quite a few lying around still waiting to be read :-)

Just not memoir, I think! Anything else I can probably make work pretty easily.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Me too Karen. Got nothing for Memoir. Think I've got a couple for all the other genres except maybe horror as well.

message 336: by Emma (M) (new)

Emma (M) | 1777 comments I should be able to find a book for any genre we get, abut I’m still intrigued to see what it will be. However better get on with my books from this week!

Oh, I just noticed we have out new word for week 2!

CINNAMON
Genre - LGBT

message 338: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments We got CINNAMON, which means LGBT. Anyone got something for that? I don't think I have anything readily available.

message 339: by Camilla (new)

Well the two BOMs I am reading atm (back room and YA) are both tagged LGBT. The last days DQs are on the 21st. So I'll just make sure I stick to the schedule and then not finish them until week 2 starts. Kind of works for me as Naked in Death is not a huge number of pages, but it is dense so takes time to read. And I've started another Poirot just for good measure :)

message 341: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1885 comments I've got What belongs to you on my TBR shelf, our library has got it, but it's currently out and the return date isn't until 08 July, so not much help for next week. I put a hold on it anyway, in case we get the same word later. It's only 194 pages.

message 342: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments Yayyyy I have SO many options on my immediate TBR for this! And at the first glance they also all work for the letters we need! 🎉

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) | 6399 comments Oh that’s perfect. I’ll be able to use the back room book plus I’m sure I can rustle up another one. 👍

Yes! I started The Fifth Season that is tagged LGBT and definitely not going to finish it before week two, so this works great :)

COUNTDOWN

This is the countdown for when week 1 ends and week 2 starts.

Any book finished before this deadline will count for week 1. Any book finished after this deadline will count for week 2.

So make sure you post at the right time :-)

message 347: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13647 comments Mod
I have several Lgbt books lying around, so I can easily cover at least one as well :-)

The Miseducation of Cameron Post is the first one that comes to mind as I only recently bought it.

The current Back Room would fit of course, but I'm going to finish that for the first week because.. well.. points, since my books are all sort of short this week.

message 348: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments I don't think I have much available for the top shelf option, besides Tipping the Velvet, which is only just over 400 pages, and Middlesex at 500. I could either read both of those instead of one chunky one or go with a chunky one outside the top shelf...

Either option gives 100 points total, but the LGBT option gives extra points for the shelf if we need them.

Thoughts?

message 349: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13647 comments Mod
Let's see how many LGBT books we can get together and then you can decide which way you want to go?

message 350: by Sammy (new)

Sammy (sammystarbuck) | 12885 comments No problem. If we get enough this round, I can always hold them in reserve in case we get the same again :)
