*cringe*

Apparently you need one of these to gain access to the tax treaties or else the US holds 30% of your earnings from the US sites (Amazon and smashwords)

Any one gone through the process yet?

I'm going to London next week. Wondering if it's worth camping out at the Embassy until someone helps me xD

Heard it takes three months :[

R. Jackson-Lawrence | 54 comments Hi Bisky

I was given an EIN (Employer Identification Number) by the IRS (I am based in the UK). I filled a form in online, and then someone from the IRS called me on the phone a few days later. They gave me the number then and the letter came in the post a few weeks later.

Certainly didn't take 3 months.

On the paperwork I have, web address is www.irs.gov and phone 1-800-829-3676

Rob

Thanks Rob, that doesn't sound too bad :]

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 41 comments I've read so much conflicting information about this process. So far I've not had enough earnings from the US to make it worth my while even applying to be honest. They're welcome to their $0.10 a month, and I hope they build many libraries with the revenue they withhold from me :)

Cem Bilici (cembilici) Yep. With Rob on this one. I did a lot of research on it and came across this blog:

http://catherineryanhoward.com/2012/0...

Used it and other links form it as a guide and got the EIN over the phone. They'll give you your EIN and you can use it straight away from what I remember and they will post you also. Just make sure you spell everything to the letter and don't be afraid to do it phonetically too to ensure they get it right. Not sure how they would go with Brit accent but had to go over it a couple times with Aussie accent, and mines not that broad either.

R. Jackson-Lawrence | 54 comments Just checked, and the withholding rate on KDP is already at 0% (it is on the account page under tax information)
