Whether or not you have read or finished Gone with the Wind, the joint readalongs continue as the Book Cougars host a readalong discussion of Sapphira and the Slave Girl by Willa Cather. We split the two books; I hosted GwtW and they took on the Cather. So far this one is set more in the Antebellum south, but Sapphira and her husband are at odds with the neighbors about slavery, which has proven interesting so far.

Shatterlings | 47 comments It’s not an author or book I have heard of, so perhaps not that well known in the UK. She sounds like an interesting lady so I might give it a go.

Shatterlings | 47 comments I had to google Capon as I had no idea what was being described by “capon man “ and I really wish I hadn’t 🙁. So yes more hideous racism here, another Southern woman who likes to get her own way and doesn’t like her child.

Okay officially discussion of this one happens in the Book Cougars group because that's what we agreed. So I'm shutting this down!
