Bear with me, it's a large time capsule okay?

What 5 books, movies, and/or pieces of music/cds should survive humans to convey our history and aspirations? And why?

Kristin B. Bodreau (krissy22247) | 726 comments Big question. That definitely bears some pondering. Especially since the premise is that it survives us and we won't be around to tell our own story. And there is a lot of it to tell, much of which contradicts the rest.

Can I punk out and just say a somehow bound and printed version of Wikipedia? :)

I'll try to think up something more profound.

Trike The Art of the Deal, Milli Vanilli’s Greatest Hits, The Writings of Jayson Blair, Rolling Stones box set and 50 Shades of Gray.

...I might be feeling a little cynical today,

H.A. Byrd | 7 comments Howl - Allen Ginsberg -Written in the 1950s, best summary of 2019. We are sacrificing what matters most for our greed.
Rolling Stones -Sympathy for the Devil -Rock-n-roll is forever.
Mulberry -TV show -Lovely human characters.
Our Planet - David Attenborough -Documentary.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll -Because what is important is our imaginations, not our wars.

I didn't see Trike's post before I wrote this- I guess the Stones have some weight.

CBRetriever | 6119 comments I don't think a time capsule should only contain English and American items.

Our Planet would be good since it shows the whole world
Hole's Human Anatomy & Physiology because it shows the dominant race on the planet
Animals: A Visual Encyclopedia
Trees, Leaves, Flowers and Seeds: A Visual Encyclopedia of the Plant Kingdom
The World's Religions
some sort of anthology of world music with each country contributing a work along with a complete collection of Shakespeare
ditto for music

Good point. Funny, without thinking about it, I interpreted this time capsule as being a personal one - what would please me; not concerning myself with what might ACTUALLY go in a time capsule. But this is clearly not what was asked for. I'm feeling wholly narcissistic now.

Trike When I had my house remodeled in early 2016, I created a time capsule and put it in a thing that will probably get replaced in about 50-75 years.

I included personal stuff but also newspapers and photos of the various parts of the house before the remodel, as well as pieces of things that were replaced, such as one of the floor tiles. I also wrote up a bunch of predictions and stuck that in there, too.

When I wrote my essay, I realized I was using then-current slang so I had to go off on a tangent to explain what I was saying. One of the phrases I used was “I know, right?” It’s only been three years but when was the last time you saw anyone utter that phrase? I was cognizant of how language evolves, having read a couple books from the 1920s and having little idea what they were talking about when it came to their slang words.

Anyway, the whole experience was totes tubular and really gear.

well Allison did say "should survive humans to convey our history and aspirations? And why?" hence my list

Hey, there's no wrong way to go about this! Especially if you imagine a world in which you are the overlord, picking things you love makes complete sense to me ^^

JC Whitebay (goodreadscomjc_whitebay) | 1 comments Hey everyone.
I think that we should keep the most beautiful of our esthetic and cultural achievements. In that way, all the future people or eventually aliens could find some of the most deep creations of women and men.

This would be my choice:

1. Book: Robert Anton Wilson, Prometheus Rising for understanding the mind and feelings of a contemporary man.
2. Videos and lectures from Sadhguru so the future human being could see what difference in a world one man did.
3. Movie: Man from Earth to express the ever-existing problem of mortality in a human soul.
4. Tantra teachings (all aspects of tantra) to give them the tools if they do not know them.
5. Picture of a beautiful Turkish woman dancing belly dance, as well as video of her because a woman beauty while she is dancing is a representation of a movement or vibration of cosmos.
