Who is going to be reading with us? This is another one I want to join in on reading!

I'm so excited for this... It's been waiting in my shelves for a while.. I might read a bit ahead of schedule the first week, but I'm keeping notes per chapters so I won't be talking ahead of the others

I'm in :D I'll probably be behind the schedule because I already have three books that I'm currently reading and I just want to finish one or two before starting anything new.

The prologue was quite small.. That and the first chapter got me really into it (those were some shitty conditions to live in). The second one though was kinda slow, a bit too much info, but still kinda important to get the whole picture of the world.
So far, looks good.

Can i join in this please? I've been wanting to read this series lately so it's perfect! Or am i too late? TIA :)

That chapter 6 ending is just.... em what?
Also spoiler for ch 5 (view spoiler)[ idk about you guys but it kinda felt like she was going to be dying from the start, like the character was like a stepstone for him to get angry and revolt, although after chapter 6 i dont know what to think anymore (hide spoiler)]

how is this book going for you guys?

Haha I didn’t know there was a breakdown. I kinda finished the book already 😅

I did put a pause on it around chapter 30, to read other stuff for the readathon. Dystopian books are still not my favs but it is enjoyable. The first few chapters where a little bit slow and boring but it got better when they got to the Institute. I think it might be the kind of series that gets better in the next books...

yeah it does seem like that kind of book, how are the characters?

So.... I started the book and read 3 chapters so far and I don't like it. But since everyone is loving it I'm planning to push myself at least till I reach 30% or 100 pages, which ever comes first.

I felt just pushed into the society without knowing who/what/where and I don't like that. Also listening to the book may have not been the smartest idea.. I like Irish accents but god, do I not like it here.

I loved it! It was such an interesting story. But something did irritate me near the ending.

Chapter 4 God. How much I don't like Darrow, that's.. wow. I can understand being scared, too set in your ways, however he's so convinced that nothing besides his family belongs to him, that all is property of the Gold. I just can't.

Maybe because I'm not too much of a lovey dovey person, or maybe it is stupid, but I was so pissed at his "I live for you" Like there's nothing more.

And then there was a sentence about how Eo doesn't love him the way he loves her--because she told him he must live for more. Oh poor little Darrow, your wife wants to be free, your folk to be free, she would sacrifice herself and you whine how she doesn't love you like you love her, because she would die for something important than live for you. boo hoo.

Chapter 5 I was also pissed when they cough them and he didn't want to hit a Tinpot, and was "making it okay" by saying this way they only get lashed. !!! tf

I just finished it today.... It was interesting... not the best but not bad either... I do hope the next ones will be better though...
Spoiler for the ending (view spoiler)[ I was kinda annoyed cuz Jackal was so build-up througout the book, everyone feared him and was talking about how awful he was. and he just lost so easy... There are just mentions of all the bad stuff he did and then he is even defeated off-screen. All that expectation and we got nothing for it. All I can hope for is that maybe he was defeated "too easy" on purpose, as a way for Mustang to gain Darrow's trust so they can manipulate him or something. (hide spoiler)]

I'm still waiting for the part where they say why exactly Darrow is a special Red.

I liked chapter 12, The Carving, or the idea that was presented in the chapter. I would've liked more if it was more detailed of how Mickey transformed him into a Gold, but apparently it's better told by Darrow how it's done instead of showing.

Thank god by the end it got to be better, I even enjoyed part 4 which is a surprise because I despised the first part. But still it felt like an intro to the story and not the story and I didn't like that

@Marilou The Jackal part at the end was anticlimactic, I expected an epic battle or something but noup, didn't happen.

This was my second time reading this book and I will admit I didn't enjoy it as much as the first. But I have the next three books and I hear people rave about them so I feel like it gets better.
