Jessica-sim | 401 comments A new month a new Poirot! But please don't worry, you can read the books and join the discussions at your own leisure.

Here we have Poirot's endearing adventure with the terrier. At least, I think it is endearing as I know the TV-episode very well and think it's lovely. Never read the book though, and the book is probably even better! So enjoy :-)

I enjoyed re-visiting this, especially as I listened to the Audible version, with Hugh Fraser reading.

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 5062 comments Me, too, I love Hugh Fraser as Hastings, and as narrator! I switched between the kindle and audiobook- I had never read this one, just seen the film.

It always make me happy when Hastings is in a Poirot novel :)

Yes, I can relate to Hastings- except how he’s always a sap for any pretty girl, he can be rather gullible!

Yes, gullible, but he has a trusting nature and I think Poirot - who certainly doesn't(!) - appreciates his general niceness.

I'm listening on audio and loving Bob's viewpoint.

Hugh Fraser has narrated quite a few of the Poirot stories, and does a masterful job each time IMO. He doesn't do a half bad impression of Poirot either!

This book kept me guessing right up until the end, which makes for a great page-turning mystery. I also thought the bond between Hastings and Bob was adorable. Its nice to see that Hastings can excel in certain areas that Poirot does not.

Frances (francesab) | 651 comments I've just finished and was also glad to see Hastings back-and to learn that he went to Eton-had everyone pegged him for a posh public school boy?

I meant to read this last month but never got round to it - however I have now started it as I can't keep on renewing the library book! I think it starts well and has immediately intrigued me.

I'm about a third of the way through now and living Bob. I was amused to see that Christie dedicated the book to her own pet dog, Peter!
