This is a very very rare occasion where I actually remember both the murderer and the motive... hmm l wonder if it turns out to be a correct memory at all haha

Susan in NC (susanncreader) | 5062 comments Me, too! I had never read this one, but had seen the David Suchet dramatization several times. I still really enjoyed it, it’s always fun tagging along with Poirot and Hastings, and I enjoyed the characters in this one - the greedy relatives, dithery companion, gossipy villagers and servants!

Rosina (rosinarowantree) | 1135 comments I haven't read any Christies for years, but I ventured into this with the audio version read by Hugh Fraser. I enjoyed it very much - especially Hasting's version of the dog's thought processes.

I did however feel that the ending was a bit woolly, although I liked the suggestion of gaslighting. Sometimes it just happens to be true.

Very true!

Tara | 843 comments The solution seemed so obvious once Poirot spelled it out, but Christie was very clever with her red herrings throughout. I was hoping that the "suspicious foreigner" wouldn't be the guilty one, but I appreciate that the real killer used those prejudices against him to cast aspersions that people would readily believe.

Tracey | 254 comments There were some really light hearted parts in this book. Hastings chatting away to Bob the terrier really made me chuckle. And Mrs Peabody seemed like a hoot, she was a great character. I thoroughly enjoyed her mocking Hastings education.

I've finished this one now and I really enjoyed it - I failed to get the correct killer, as I suspected Dr Donaldson!

I enjoyed all the dog parts and I liked Caroline Peabody, who reminded me of characters in the Miss Marple stories. It was also fun to see Poirot making up so many outrageous stories.
