Sarah | 3168 comments So far I’ve only listened to Ninth Step Station. I enjoyed it very much- the narration, the sound effects, the writing. I love the episode format. It’s easy to pick up and put down. It took me a long time to listen to, though.

Has anyone else read/listened to Serial Box? Do you have any recommendations? I’m thinking I’d like to get another one, but I’m torn about what I want. There are several SFF options, but some of the horror/thriller options look good too.

I’d love to hear your thoughts/favorites.

Trike I’ve read the first two Bookburners books. The first was a 5-star story. The second wasn’t quite as good but I still enjoyed it. They sent me a copy of The Vela, but I haven’t gotten to it yet.

I didn’t listen to them, though. If they’re full cast, maybe I should.

Kaa | 1543 comments I also liked Ninth Step Station. The only other complete seasons I've read or listened to so far are The Vela (eye-read) and Tremontaine S1 (audio). I enjoyed both, although I think NSS took advantage of the serial format a little better than either of those. The Vela was more or less one continuous story, while Tremontaine moves around among a cast of characters. Tremontaine was a fine audiobook, but I don't recall that it had all of the great sound effects of NSS.

Bookburners S1 and Fisher of Bones are two that both look appealing and are available free, although I haven't read more than a chapter of either. I've also read and enjoyed the first chapters of The Witch Who Came in From the Cold and Born to the Blade (Malka Older is one of the writers on this).

That's kind of disappointing since I thought it was what made them stand out a little! I don't usually listen to audio but the episode format and overall effect/production was so enjoyable I wasn't really interested in eye-reading them, only listening.

Beth (rosewoodpip) | 2005 comments I've also read the first season of Tremontaine and enjoyed the modern-fantasy take on the setting (vs the late '80s take in Swordspoint).

The other was the first few episodes of Whitehall, a historical drama centered around the court of Charles I. I was enjoying the soap opera-ness of it but petered out about halfway through. I later got the whole season in a book bundle, so I'll get back around to it sometime.
