Ginger | 3903 comments Come join Terry and I as we buddy read The Redbreast by Jo Nesbø on Monday, July 8th. This selection is for my real life book club for July and Terry has agreed to join in my mystery/thriller action.
It's not really horror but if you would like to join, please do!

Terry | 5364 comments I'm excited for another good mystery by Nesbo!

Awesome John!! I've read from a couple of other reviews that it's a bit of a slow burn in the beginning. I'm okay with a slow burn as long as it pays off in the end.
Glad to hear you liked this one!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 1005 comments Looks like I was a bit meh on this one. No spoilers in my review!

Well, I hope it's more then "meh" for me. I know it's a nordic writer and I'm hoping to be ready for the Norwegian to English translation!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 1005 comments To be honest, most Nesbø has been meh for me. I am not really sure why I keep reading them!🙂🤷‍♂️

Hahaha!!! I guess it's because you're not a quitter. ;) LOL!

Matthew (funkygman007) | 1005 comments Looks like I have read up through 7. I have given 5 of them 3 stars, 1 of them 4 stars, and book 4 (Nemesis) got 2 stars.

Ha!! Yep, you should just put this series on hold. It doesn’t seem like Harry Hole is your guy. 🤣😂

Matthew (funkygman007) | 1005 comments Well, someone sent me a copy of The Leopard a few years ago (book 8). I gotta at least read that one!😄

Well, hopefully it’s not “meh” for you!

Love Nesbø's books. I almost wish I hadn't read all the Harry Hole books so I could discover them again.

Fantastic! Glad you like this series Alan!

Terry | 5364 comments I read the first three chapters - could have been the first chapter of three different books, haha.

Ginger | 3903 comments Terry wrote: "I read the first three chapters - could have been the first chapter of three different books, haha."

Glad you started!! I'll catch up to you at lunch.
That's interesting to hear on the three different chapters. o.O hahaha

Ginger | 3903 comments Terry wrote: "I read the first three chapters - could have been the first chapter of three different books, haha."

You're totally right! I just got to the beginning of Ch 6.
(view spoiler)

Terry | 5364 comments I stopped at ch6 as well. And yes, supreme jerk is a good description!

Terry | 5364 comments The end of ch8 - that is not what I was expecting was going to happen!

Ginger | 3903 comments Terry wrote: "The end of ch8 - that is not what I was expecting was going to happen!"

Same! I was not expecting for it to (view spoiler)
I wanted to read more but had to get some sleep and noticed the book went to 1942 in next chapter so I wasn't going to know how that all played out anyway. LOL!

This is jumping around a lot to start with. I hope it settles out As we go along.

Let me know if the pacing is working for you. We don’t need to push hard if you need more time on your other reads also.

Agree on the pacing. I think it will settle down once the plot gets going. I know it's got hints of WWII and Nazi's involved so I'm excited about the plot!

The pacing is great! I've got to read this by July 28th so I'm going to try and do 2-3 chapters a day. The chapters are short so I don't see that being a problem with me.
Does that sound good to you? I know you're also reading other BRs as well.

Terry | 5364 comments 2-3 chapters works just fine for me, too.

Ginger | 3903 comments I got up to the beginning of Ch 14. Sorry! It was more then 2-3 chapters. I got into the WWII battle going on in 1942.
Stopping for the day.

Terry | 5364 comments Haha, no worries. I’m at the start of ch10.

I got to the beginning of Ch17. I'm enjoying the slow burn of this so far. It feels like a puzzle. One small piece at a time until you can see the whole picture.
It's like with the old man. (view spoiler)

Terry | 5364 comments I understand why you didn’t stop now!

Ha!! It was just, one more chapter. Got to read one more. :D
The way Nesbø wrote those chapters of the war was bleak and hard to put down.

Terry | 5364 comments I agree. Hard to imagine the reality of it.

I read up to ch23. I agree with you about the mystery and slow burn. Something is definitely up with that guy.

Not at all. I’m enjoying this, too. I’ll get through those others a little slower - no big deal.

Great!! Just got to the beginning of Ch23. I'm enjoying this plot as well. I don't seem to be struggling too much with the Norwegian to English transition so far. I do wish I knew how to say some of the names and cities better in my head. LOL!!

Terry | 5364 comments I’m cheating and listening to the audiobook, so I don’t have to figure out those pronunciations. 😁

Terry | 5364 comments Haha, yes, he’s always grumpy! But he does seem to be good at his job. I’m just at ch32. This whole WWII storyline is fascinating.

In fact, I just got to Ch 52. What until you get to this point. Holy shit, plot twist!
Don't read this until you catch up. (view spoiler)

This whole twist changes everything with the investigation!

Terry | 5364 comments Definitely. Finally, it will be considered a priority. It it’s just a side story to the main mystery!
