I am still unsure if this review deserves 4 stars to be honest. Wrote this down when on holidays and i was on the fence about 4 stars.

I was told that this book was really good but to be totally honest, i was bored during parts of it. For a book with such a deep and dark and also big part of history, it repeated itself way to much. Way to much to be honest that it gave me the impression that the author was trying to push information that was irrelevant or it gave the impression that he forgot he already mentioned it multiple times. I personally found the repetitive information distracting from the main storyline and irritating. This is where it then gave me the thought that he seriously could have made this book 200 or 250 pages less than it really is.

With that said, I loved how the book was narrated in the first (Penn) and third person. It gave the feeling that you're reading the next story the Prosecutor, Lawyer, mayor, and Author of Natchez was writing. The next story of his career and his life. I honestly liked that part the book gave. While he was explaining the events currently happening to him, the 3rd person gave the feeling that while those events were taking place, the other ones were going on at the same time. Where Penns dad being on the run and the Double Eagles continuing their horrible traditions.

The history that the story demanded was very well told. When it thrown you back into the 60s, you felt you were there. You felt it, breathed it. You could see the events taking place. The writing was brilliant in that was, it just took forever to relay the information.

The novel I feel deserves a 4 star rating but really I could have gave it a 3 do to repetitive narration. I gave it a 4 because with all that aside, other parts of the writing and the description and history was well represented. That is why it has gotten a 4 from me.
