August 2019 READER Nominations

Bump. Anyone have a nomination? If not I’ll pick a Liaden Universe story we haven’t read yet and nominate it. We have read a couple already this year so I wanted to give other books a chance.
Since we have no seconds yet, I’m going to nominate a short story: “To Cut an Edge” which is currently in print in two collections:
Two Tales of Korval by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller.
A Liaden Universe Constellation: Volume I
It’s the first story in each of these books. There is no need to have read any other Liaden Universe stories. This story is about Val Con when he is a newish Scout, and how he meets Edger the Clutch Turtle. So it’s First Contact, there is danger, there is creative solutions to problems too.
Edit: and the free preview of the ebook of the Constellation anthology should give you most if not all of the story.

I found the entirety of “To Cut an Edge” available free online on the Baen website. Link is https://www.baen.com/Chapters/9781451...

First book of the Mars Wars trilogy.

... also posted in the nominations for Space Colony thread.
John, that doesn’t qualify for Reader Pick. You can nominate it on the Indie nominations thread though.

Thanks Teresa. Will do.

READER books need to be currently in print in both paperback and ebook, and readily available through most of the normal places to get books (both online and brick and mortar stores). They must be Space Opera, which means a spaceship has to be involved in the story somewhere. If it is part of a series, it needs to be suitable to being read without having read other books in the series.
RULES:
* you may nominate one book on this thread.
* you may second as many nominations as you like on this thread.
* it is okay to nominate the same book on more than one nomination thread, as long as it meets the criteria
* don't nominate a book we already have on our bookshelf
* If a book you nominate or second is selected, you are expected to post at least one comment about it on the thread about the book.
* In about two weeks I will draw a book randomly, with each second being one raffle ticket for the book. That is, a book with three seconds (so four of us want it) will get three chances in the pool.
It is likely helpful if you know something about a book that has been nominated if you mention it in this thread, whether it is for or against the book.
