Question of the Day

.
Most surprising read this year, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins. I had such low expectations for this book. I thought the author was just trying to make more money off The Hunger Games. I don't know if she was or not, but I ended up loving this book as much as The Hunger Games trilogy.

Horror and nonfiction have always been my favorite.

1. Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell
2. The Tea Dragon Society by Katie O'Neill
3. [book: Mooncak..."
I just downloaded The Tea Dragon Society.

For historical fiction - I’d say alternate history with a fantasy twist
For horror - I like gothic horror

I love IT! My favorite SK book so far! So much detail and history.

My favorite SK book is The Stand.
218. What are buzzwords that make you walk away from a book? (When you see these in a blurb/synopsis you will put the book down and not want to read it.)

.
- stream of consciousness
- academic/scholarly
- humour
I don't know if these are considered buzzwords, but they will certainly make me put a book down.
219. If you eat while reading what is your go-to food or does it matter? (Snacks, baked goods, a meal?)

221. Have you ever liked a side character more than a main character? If so, what character was it (and from what book)?

If I have I can't remember.

I know this sounds weird, but Katherine from The Tenth Muse is such an interesting fictional character that I don't read about often in other novels.

- What is due at the library.
- Goodreads groups monthly reads. ...when I decide to participate.
- Challenges I am doing.
- My mood.
- Occasionally, I do a buddy read. Now that I think of it, it has been quite awhile since I have done this.

Right now it is Amazon. Shopping from the convenience of my home. And one click buying.
But a new used bookstore has opened up in London, Second Chance Bookstore. It might become my favorite.
My physical bookstore favorites are Half Price Books, B & N, and McKay's. My online book shopping tends to be defaulted to Amazon but I have bought books from Book Depository (when I want a certain edition) and Book Outlet.

Oh wow! I couldn't refrain from going to a physical bookstore for 8 years. Although, it would probably be great for my wallet. But, then there's online book shopping.

Mine was "There Are Rocks in My Socks!" Said the Ox to the Fox by Patricia Thomas.
It was my favorite book to read, or have read to me, as a little kid. It was a cute story book that is sadly out of print. It is the first story book that I also remember reading on my own. It is kind of similar to Dr. Seuss with all of the cute rhymes and lessons.

I wasn't an avid reader at the time.

Not sure if these are considered niche sub-genre, but here goes:
- Vampire - but it must be done well, for example, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War
- Zombie - must be done well, for example, The Girl With All the Gifts
- Fairy tale retelling
- Magical realism - but I am really picky about this one. The Night Circus is good.
- Time travel
- Apocalyptic
