I’m not sure I’ve read any book that’s been intimidating to me. Jane Eyre was one of the first classics I read that I felt a bit of trepidation. Next I had seen A Christmas Carol several times, but had never read the book. Once I finally read it I was so happy. I was worried I wouldn’t like the book, but I totally loved it, and it made me love the movies even more (especially Scrooged).

It is such a long involved story for sure, but I loved it so much with all of the details.

I don't read poetry. I used to love Robert Frost. I even recited one of his poems in an English class once.

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments Is Dr Seuss is considered poetry? That is the closest I have come to enjoying poetry.

65. How many books do you usually have checked out from the library at any given time?

message 209: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments Between 2 and 6 books (including digital). However 3 books is a reasonable amount for me because I am a slow reader, but I just keep seeing more books that I want.

message 210: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments 25-30. I've had 40 out at once but that's overwhelming.

I’m not sure I have a favorite poet, but I’ve been reading more poetry this past year. I’m really liking it.

Between all formats, probably around 10 to 15 books.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments Debra wrote: "I probably average once a month."

Too often. Working on that flaw for sure.

One book that I felt inspired by is Ex Libris: Confessions of a Common Reader. It was such a wonderful book and has definitely encouraged me to read a lot more.

message 227: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Since I have started reading for fun I would say a month. I'm sure I've longer when I was a kid.

I think mine, so far, would be Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire.

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments .
.
Fiction - Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx
And - The Devourers by Indra Das

Nonfiction - Esther the Wonder Pig by Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter

No way I could pick just one.

Krystyna wrote: "72. What is your favorite duology?"

While I was trying to find an answer to this question, I realized I don't really read duologies. But, I'd have to go with a YA duology that I read by Victoria Schwab. It's the Monsters of Verity series and the books are This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet.

message 234: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments Yeah I don’t think I’ve read any duologies.

message 235: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments I don't think I've read any duologies either.

message 236: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments No duologies here.

message 240: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments Krystyna wrote: "73. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?"

My pets....I feel like I must give them attention.

message 241: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments Krystyna wrote: "74. What book could you just not bring yourself to finish?"

Frankly I’ve always either gone back and finished or plan to go back and finish books. There has only been one I couldn’t finish because of the narrator. I can’t even remember the name of the book, but the narrator made every character sound like Rodney Dangerfield. I couldn’t even hear the story because the narration was so bad.

message 242: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Krystyna wrote: "73. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?"

My phone or the TV if it's on in the background.

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Krystyna wrote: "74. What book could you just not bring yourself to finish?"

The Two Lila Bennetts by Liz Fenton

I just couldn't handle this one. It was super annoying.

Honorable mention:
The Doll Factory by Elizabeth Macneal

message 244: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments There are numerous books that I did not finish. One is A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles. So many people liked it that I kept trying. But gave up about 25% in.

76. What is your rule of thumb when it comes to buying books and reading books from the library? Do you strictly do one or the other? Do you read so many library books before you buy a book? Do you read so many of the books you bought before you buy any more?

message 250: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments The majority of the books I read are from the library. I'm trying to read more of the books on my own shelves. I don't really have any rules for myself.
I am trying to implement a rule where I need to pick a book off my shelves, a book off of NetGalley, and a book that I have out from the library. Those will be my main priorities for the month.
