I think that's a great idea and I need to try to implement something similar for myself.

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments No rules for me either. Normally I get books from the library. Including interlibrary loans and digital sources. As for buying books, I am working on reading the books I have before buying more. But I am not doing a very good job of it.

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments I have no rules at all.

77. What would cause you to DNF a book?

message 255: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments Poor writing is usually the biggest cause. If the story bores me, I'll DNF it sometimes. There are some books I can push my way through.

message 256: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments The book needs to have something in it that makes me want to see what happens next. Also, it helps if I care and connect to the characters.

message 257: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments Such bad writing the story is not redeemed in any way. Also way too much sex in a book.

78. Do you keep your books organized? If so, how?

message 259: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments Only a little bit organized. Some by theme/genre. Some by to be read next. And the library books have their own place by the door.

message 260: by Vivian (last edited Nov 18, 2019 06:56AM) (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I have a "read" and "to be read" shelf. They are both organized by author last name.
Library books are on a shelf in my living room.

message 261: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments No there is absolutely no organization to my bookshelves. Total chaos.

79. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away/donate them/sell them once you’ve read them?

message 264: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments Nowadays, I donate to the library. There was a time when I sold books on Amazon, but so many people started doing that, so it wasn't worth it anymore.

message 265: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments I do a little of everything—keep them, give them away to friends if they want them, donate them, and some I'll take to HPB.

message 266: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 381 comments I keep most of my books. I do send to a friend as well when I think she might like a book. And I will also donate to LFL.

message 271: by Vivian (new)

Vivian Stevenson (passionatelyperusing) | 2032 comments The Weight of Ink by Rachel Kadish. There are multiple female protagonists in this one. It's seriously one of the best books I've ever read.

Many great ones, but I will go with the book I just finished. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. Also loved the supporting characters.

*It's not all set before I was born, but the majority of it is, so I count it.

86. What book did you end up liking but expected not to?

message 284: by Debra Diggs (new)

Debra Diggs | 2444 comments World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks. I had read so many reviews that said watch the movie skip the book, so I put off reading this book for a long time. I ended up loving the book. .....The movie was enjoyable, but the book is where the real story is.
