Theresa | 15568 comments Seems most of the northern hemisphere is experiencing dangerously hot weather, and I can only assume most in the southern hemisphere are freezing their toes off. Soooo...time for extreme weather reading! What will you turn to this weekend when hibernating from extreme temps?

Personally, for me here in NYC where temps will hit 98F and 99F this weekend (that's about 37C in the rest of the world...and we will not discuss the obscene humidity levels), I am not leaving my air-conditioned apartment, but heading straight into Christmas in July! I have 2 romances lined up on my tablet: Snowflakes on Silver Cove [and there better be lots of frolicking in the snow] and Knit the Season. If both are finished before Monday (and I am not starting either until late tonight), I have plenty of other Christmas set mysteries and romances to draw on.

So who is joining me in tossing aside your Horizons, Trim, and/or London reading for something to cool - or warm - you this extreme weather weekend?

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments I don't really have anything purposely to counterbalance the extreme hot weather, and unfortunately I am having a BBQ this weekend :O

I am reading We Who Are About To... for trim because we are getting close to the close of July. Since it is set in space it does allow for a bit of escapism.

I also have The Nickel Boys on the way so I hope to crack that open when it arrives this weekend.

Idit | 1028 comments It's not that cold in Sydney. In fact, a friend who left to Wales was complaining that it's colder in Wales in the summer than in Sydney in the winter
Also - with the rate of my reading, I need to concentrate on my challenges. I will hopefully be finishing my London by Sunday, and will swiftly move to my Trim, while Horizon is moving along in between
Enjoy the air condition and the weekend of light reading.
I would love me some summer and swimming (but leave the humidity to you)

Joanne (joabroda1) | 12589 comments I may get to my X-mas in July Book First Frost-I knocked off my Trim and Horizon books this week, but my London book is still sitting on the night stand. I am reading Midnight Riot (also known as Rivers of London) and am only 3 chapters in. I read 2 "war-torn country" stories for the challenges, and I need something light, but M.Riot, for some reason, is just not doing it for me-I know you all love this series, so I am going to continue with the read and hope for the best

Hayjay315 | 465 comments I'm going the route of cozy mysteries and have Murder at the Vicarage and Murder on the SS Rosa lined up to escape the heat here in MN! I'm going to pair them with fall scented candles and fuzzy socks!

Booknblues | 12096 comments I've finished my tag, Trim and Horizon challenges, so have moved on to Christmas in July with an Arctic setting with Boundless: Tracing Land and Dream in a New Northwest Passage.

I have a wedding to go to in Mount Shasta this weekend, so I'm not sure when I will finish.

LibraryCin | 11697 comments Well, in Alberta, we have had a much cooler "summer' than usual (so far). Although, we have had a lot of quick storms (and a few tornadoes) roll through. Usually June is our wet month, and July/August get hot (for us) with some thundershowers in the evenings.

This year, June was dry until the middle of the month, and the wet June-like weather has continued to now. Starting this weekend and into next week, it will warm up and feel like a normal summer here.

That all being said, I like the rain and cooler weather. I'm in a minority. But, I usually take July off work, so I don't have to be outside walking to/from (I don't drive) buses, trains, etc to/from work)... so that I can "hide" inside and open and close windows and better times to keep the temp inside the house cooler (no A/C in my house).

Having July off work does mean more time to read, for sure.

I'm listening and obsessively reading my way through a Mary Balogh Regency romance series. I'm blaming you for this, Theresa.

Karin | 9233 comments I am staying inside! One of today's tasks was to record my son for a scholarship audition (we do far more of these than he'll every win, naturally!) I'm happy because it only took 3 takes! Usually he isn't happy for much, much longer.

Because our &*(&*! A/C is designed for only temps through the 80s F, our upstairs, where it is set to 72, is currently 78 and our downstairs warmer, but at least it is dry and far more comfortable than outside! Had I known this, I'd have requested stuff good for warmer climes even if we don't get many days over 90 usually (its always enough I wish this!)

No cooking and no laundry. I went and bought a relatively unhealthy weekend's fare because my husband wants variety. No cold meat for him (not sure why he thinks that's weird, it is quite normal in Canada, and I'm not talking cold cuts, either).
