Everyone has a book that they haven't read that shocks and horrifies other writers and readers. Which classic or must read have you never gotten around to reading?

Too many to list. I'd say all of them. I'm sure you'd name one and I'd answer I haven't read it. ;)
Anyway, I'll go with hmm Harry Potter for now.

B.C. (barry_hollywood) | 4 comments Ulysses by James Joyce is glowering at me as I type this. It's been sitting on my 'read immediately' shelf for an age...

Kevin Moore (kevmoorewrites) | 63 comments I never realized how bad my high school's lit program was until I got to college. There are SO many books I feel I should have read by now: To Kill a Mockingbird, 1984, Huckleberry Finn, anything by Shakespeare :(

I've been trying to remedy this the last few years.

Linda Dobinson (baspoet) Wuthering Heights is the only Bronte novel I have never got around to. Then there is lots of Shakespeare, Dickens, 1984.......... :/

Samantha Strong (samanthalstrong) | 206 comments I'm not big on reading the classics, although once in awhile I make an effort to do so, and I'm happy that I got to read some in high school.

But the one person's books that I had always felt like I should read but didn't want to was Jane Austen. When I was in high school, my two BFF's were obsessed with her, and they loved that remake called Emma with Gwyneth Paltrow. I totally did not get it--it seemed so ridiculous and frivilous to me, a book about wearing big skirts and looking for a husband.

Well, earlier this year, I finally forced myself to read Pride and Prejudice. Much to my surprised, it was not forcing after the first chapter--I loved it! It's really clever and funny, and I really loved the characters. Now I know why they thought her books are great.

I still haven't read anything else, but I will someday. And I won't dread it.

Oh I loved that book. It was hilarious. All the fighting and zombie slaying... Oh no wait...

Stephen King's It... and most of his other books. People invariably think of King as soon as you say horror, but I just don't like the majority of his stuff. I liked Carrie, The Shining, Misery, but I didn't love them. I can barely remember reading Christine. Was gifted the first in the Dark Tower series, which yes I did read.

I recently read his book On Writing, which BTW, the salient points actually ON writing you're better off finding on Google/Twitter/Tumblr rather than reading this book if you want writing tips. As interesting as his life and anecdotes were, it is not a writing book, which I half think is the joke.

I sat down recently and tried to read It... Yeah, it reminded me why I don't read King. Much prefer Joe Hill if you're looking in the King family.
