Annie (meltedasrai) I am getting very tired of paranormal books full of romance! I'm very much not into romance and I don't understand it's presence confuses me.
Please recommend me some good books without or with very little romance! Thank you. ♥

Lawrence Ambrose (ambrose2014) | 50 comments Funny, because that's been a knock against my YA novels - "Not enough romance!" I think people who liked Xena might like the Moira - Lorilee series. Moira's first installment is on sale for .99. It's much more adventure-oriented than romance-oriented, that's for sure. ;)

Kay Causer (kaycauser) | 7 comments It's hard to find paranormal (especially YA) without romance. It seems to take over. I really try not to let it in my stories unless that's the point of the story. I'm going to have to lurk this thread to see if I can find anything too.

Gina Drayer | 4 comments Hold Me Closer, Necromancer (Necromancer, #1) by Lish McBride

It has a little romance towards the end, but it's not angsty.

Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl, #1) by Eoin Colfer

This might lean more towards MG, but I really love this series.

NonPARA

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner and Unwind (Unwind, #1) by Neal Shusterman

Unwind is very dark though.

Lawrence Ambrose (ambrose2014) | 50 comments I've been wondering about the near-total dominance of romance in YA and NA. I actually like romance a lot more than most guys, and have written a couple of novels that had strong romantic elements, but I'm weary of the romance in YA/NA novels. It's become a tired cliche to me (unless it's done super-well).

I agree about MAZE RUNNER, btw. Nicely done, sans romance.

Danielle Thorne (daniellethorne) My Death Cheater series features friendship w sweet romantic undertones but the story is paranormal!

Ashley Stambaugh (ashleystambaugh) This has a little bit of romance, but it's not the main story line. Collide by Ashley Stambaugh

Shelby Suderman | 60 comments I've struggled to find interesting fantasy-style YA for years with little to no romance so I know what that's like. Kenneth Oppel writes YA with some romance but its never the focus. His best for YA would be the Airborn trilogy:
Airborn (Matt Cruse, #1) by Kenneth Oppel Skybreaker (Matt Cruse, #2) by Kenneth Oppel Starclimber (Matt Cruse, #3) by Kenneth Oppel
Airborn, the first one, has a kinda Steampunk Treasure Island feel to it, and the other two are about pushing the boundaries of their technology, with adventure and intrigue for good measure. I really gotta find the time to reread these sometime in the near future . . .
Then there's his newer trilogy (of which there's only two so far) The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein. It's a prequel trilogy for Frankenstein by Mary Shelly about how Victor became the kinda person who would try to assemble corpses and bring them to life. The first one is good but the second is one of my personal favourites from him:
This Dark Endeavor (The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein, #1) by Kenneth Oppel Such Wicked Intent (The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein, #2) by Kenneth Oppel

Heather Blair (lovelyshivers) | 46 comments I LOVED the Veilwalker series!!

Twin 'Veilwalkers' Lyric & Lincoln Yama have been hunted their whole lives, prized for their ability to cross the veil between the living & the dead. Their power makes them sought after by every magical faction that exists. Their father is the only thing that protects them from being ripped to pieces in the crossfire.
That's the way it works, everyone wants to use them, make them slaves or worse. Their mother was murdered for her powers...or was she? Is something even more sinister hiding in their past, or even in their own family?

Into the Veil (Veilwalker Trilogy, #1) by Jennifer R. McDonald
Through the Gloom (Veilwalker Trilogy, #2) by Jennifer R. McDonald
Across the Blood Red River (Veilwalker Trilogy, #3) by Jennifer R. McDonald

There is romance, but its not the focal point. There is fantastic world-building, tons of action & suspense and amazing plot twists.

Fair warning, there is a smattering of editing issues, in the first book particularly, but keep going and you will get sucked in. I stayed up all night reading Book 2. I couldn't put it down! Lyric is probably one of my fave heroines of all time.

Lydson Henrique San Garcia (lydson) | 1 comments I recommend these two:

Zero Sight (Zero Sight, #1) by B. Justin Shier I Am Not A Serial Killer (John Cleaver, #1) by Dan Wells

They have much more action than love. Almost no romance.

Rachel Marks | 2 comments LOVE Steelheart!!!

Shelby Suderman | 60 comments I've got Steelheart on my TBR list!

I also wanted to recommend the Chloe and Levesque mystery series by Norah McClintock (if you want good YA Teen Sleuth) I haven't really found much else I like by her so far, but that's one series I go back to a lot. There tends to be a relationship going on somewhere in the book, but half the time it's not even the main character's and it plays a part in the mystery. There's a prequel to the rest of the series (Goodreads lists it as the first in the series) and it's written differently than the others and doesn't have the same feel to the others. Personally, I don't like it that much. I always start with this one:
Over the Edge (Chloe & Levesque, #2) by Norah McClintock
There's 5 more that follow it.

Laurel Wanrow (laurelwanrow) | 41 comments Elsewhere Elsewhere? Not adventure. The heroine has died and goes 'elsewhere' where she ages backwards until she's reborn.

Sabriel Sabriel and the whole Abhorsen series. Set in a magical realm, she's trying to find her father, who makes sure the dead get to where they are going.

Sorry both are death related books.
