Prejudice in 'The 39 Steps'

The 39 Steps puts the prejudices f the early 20th century UK in the words of its characters. Antisemitism is one such prejudice that is clearly presented.

It is probably more a reflection of the time and place in which the book was written. When the book was written in 1915, it was before anti-Semiticism would rise to the level of the Holocaust. There were some controversies during the day, such as the Dreyfus affair and several pogroms, but anti-Semiticism had a different light back then (and may have been more acceptable) compared to current times. The main character of the book, Richard Hannay, himself does not seem to be anti-Semitic, though.
