yay! Let me know when you get to about chapt 3. I'm gonna wanna see how you like it. I'm on part 1 chapt 4.
I just finished with Chapter 3. I don't think it's gonna take me long to finish this book at all. So far so good.
Had a busy weekend but I'm cracking my book open right now. This book was very controversial. Many said it was racist, and thy feminist society really was outraged. I can't wait to finish so that I can fully develop my own opinion.
This is really good so far. I'm somewhere in the 5th chapter. I'm gonna have to go to the book store and buy a copy. I downloaded a pdf version on my work computer, but I've been so dang busy I can't read more than a few pages a day. LOL
Lol don't feel bad I'm on the same schedule with this book. I'm off work until Sunday so I'll be getting forget into it hopefully.

I too found it a bit sexist but I try not to judge a writer or a character. I also try to separate character from writer. I'm amost finished and so far I'm liking it. I can say that I understand the controversy behind it all.
What did you all think about McMurphy? Many reviews praise him and considers him a hero, while others considers him a sociopathic criminal who rapes women and shouldn't be praised. What are your opinions? I'm still deciding lol.

I'd say I'm more with the latter group but at the same time I felt really sorry for him when he got his lobotomy cuz it kinda felt like he lost, you know? It made me sad.
I think Kesey is a good writer because my mind went something like this while reading the book,
"That's sexist...Go McMurphy!...That's racist...I hope McMurphy succeeds!" If a writer can get me cheering for someone that stands antithetical to everything I believe in they are pretty good, lol.
Lol yesss! Exactly how I felt which is why I'm still deciding lol. A good author can make you love or least empathize with the bad guy.
I agree with you both!! I was cheering McMurphy on the entire which is why I was heartbroken at the end.
What do you think made him revert back to the old McMurphy? You remember after the talk with the life guard, he simmered down.

I think at the time he wanted to get out. He thought that the asylum was a fixed thing. He could cause as much trouble as he wanted and still get out in a couple months. The lifeguard informed him this wasn't the case which made him reevaluate what he was doing.
