YEARS: I read it somewhere between 2006 and 2009. I bought it used, I believe, or borrowed it from somewhere. I believe it was probably published between 1990 & 2006/9.
LOCATION: It was a fantasy world of some kind!
COVER IMAGE: The cover is actually the main thing I remember about the book. It was primarily white, with green detailing & fancy lettering. There was a circular-like image on the cover, with a view of the main characters.
PLOT DETAILS
Bear with me, because as you can probably tell from the topic, my memory is fuzzy and the details are vague. HOWEVER, I do have a few, so, here goes:
It was the second in a series, possibly a trilogy. I never did have the first one, but I had two and three. (I don't know what's happened to them.) They centered around two, possibly three main protagonists. There was definitely one boy and one girl. One of them may have been a non human character (an elf, I think?). I believe one of them may have had a criminal background, while the other had noble lineage. (But this could be me mixing it up with other books.)
The book opens with one of the characters visiting the old city district he/she used to live in, before they saved the city in the previous book. However, either shortly after they visit old friends, they're visited by the creature mentioned above. It had a message for them, about a mystery of some kind plaguing the city.
There was also a part in the book where they end up outside of town, in a sort of cave area??? Maybe??? I read a lot of books during this time period so it's very easy for them to blur together!
