Aww, I hope you like it, Okie!

I'm in a weird reading mood. I reread Carolina Home by Virginia Kantra last week, then for something completely different read Beautiful Stranger and Beautiful Player by Christina Lauren back to back. Now, I'm torn between Carolina Girl and about a million other books on my TBR pile. Just restless, I think.

Theresa Romain | 420 comments Phoenix, I really like Alison DeLaine's books. They have that epic feeling of Old Skool romances, but the heroines give back as good as they get. How are you liking PBD so far?

I'm reading Every Secret Thing by Emma Cole who is actually Susanna Kearsley. It doesn't have the paranormal bits of her Kearsley books, but it does wrap together several different timelines. Very cool storytelling.

I enjoyed it but I wish I had read the first couple of books first (the heroine's back story wasn't explained well). It had an almost bodice-ripper light feel to it with all the talk of pirates and the overly rakish hero.

Cheryl (cawils_99) Rachel I love her too. I don't know why I've been putting off starting this series.

Yeah, I read the books out of order too and I thought it would have been better if I hadn't. The heroine of PBD is a big part of the first two books in the trilogy.

Finished Every Secret Thing yday, and today's rainy weather makes me want to read something dark and gritty. I'll start Erica Monroe's Secrets in Scarlet this evening, if I finish my words.

Just finished Heroes Are My Weakness. Loved everything about it. The nods to DuMaurier and gothic romance, the puppets, the island, the search for Annie's legacy. Sometimes I wish SEP wrote faster, but when I read her I'm reminded of just how good a book can be when it's not rushed.

I just finished listening to the audiobook. SEP is relatively new to me.. I've only read a handful of her books, yet I felt some subplots were recycled from her other books eg the return of the penniless heroine to a childhood place in order to retrieve something unknown of great value left to her by a relative and the hunt for said unknown reminded me immediately of Ain't she Sweet. And then hints of Match Me If You Can came to me when the heroine goes from loathing to love for the hero. Not complaining, SEP is highly entertaining. It's akin to a wonderful cook who likes to use tried and true favourite ingredients I guess.
I did find it slow going the first half but SEP ties it all up beautifully. I did love Annie as a heroine, her search for her legacy as you pointed out and how she helped the little girl was wonderful. I loved how she wrote the island women too!
