message 1802: by Courtney (new)

Courtney Macfarlane (cmacattack) Hi! My name is Courtney and I am in my second year at university, which means that I do not have a whole lot of time for pleasure reading but I would like to change that and I think that Young Adult books are an excellent way of doing that.

Imani (odairfinnick) | 6 comments Hi there! My name is Imani, and I'm a 14 year old sophomore who's a total book addict. I love YA, especially dystopian and fantasy. My favorite authors include Suzanne Collins, Veronica Roth, and Rick Riordan, and The Hunger Games is my absolute favorite series. I joined Goodreads because when I found out about the online book lovers community, I knew I had to join!

Bea Palacio (awkwardlybea) | 2 comments Hello, fellow book readers. My name is Bea (Be-ya), and I'm not very good with introductions. I just really love reading books and I aspire to become an author one day. Young adult novels are among one of my many favorite genres, and Suzanne Collins, J.K Rowling, Veronica Roth, and Cassandra Clare are just a few of my favorite authors. Hope to get acquainted with all of you.

The first step of book addiction recovery is to admit one is an addict.

Who am I kidding, we all need our vices and books are close to perfect! :D

Kim *Mo Chridhe* (kimthebookcrier) | 8 comments Hi everyone! I'm Kim from Canada. I'm 28 years old and I love YA! I used to read a lot of Sweet Valley, The Babysitters Club and Animorphs when I was a lot younger and somehow stopped reading when high school and college schoolwork got too demanding. I only recently hopped back on the YA bandwagon (May 2012) and Cassandra Clare's Clockwork Angel was the first book I picked up. I loved it! Haven't stopped reading YA since then and so far I've discovered that my favourite YA author is Melina Marchetta. I love ALL her books! I also adore the Vampire Academy and Under the Never Sky series. Recent favourites also include The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin, The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins and Where She Went by Gayle Foreman. Looking forward to discovering more great YA! :)

I got into reading when I first read Harry Potter series 10 years ago. Since then I am reading non-stop.
I am interested in YA fantasy and dystopian genres.
I'm gonna read all the books worth readable. I also spend my time writing stories.
Everyone is invited to give their book recommendations for me.
Thanks.

message 1815: by Candice (new)

Candice Willman I'm Candice. I'm 25 and been addicted to reading since I was 2 years old. I'm a hardcore book nerd and my dream is to own Belle's library from beauty and the beast. I own well over 500 books not including ebooks. I used to read a book a day. But sadly being an adult doesn't allow that. I am currently working towards my BA in English. I want to be a writer. I look forward to reading more and some day read all the books I own.

message 1816: by Nobah (new)

Nobah (bobatealove) | 1 comments Hey everyone! My name is Nobah and I have too many books I want to read. Goodreads helped me discover even more, so instead of doing homework for AP classes I find myself sneaking in a chapter here and there in the midst of it ^___^"

I love to read! When I was a kid, I got in trouble for reading books in bed way past bedtime >____<" I stopped reading when I got into high school, but now that it's my senior year I've gotten back into reading whenever I have the time to. I hope this group introduces me to more great books :)

message 1817: by Elena (new)

Elena (elenaselge) Hey! I'm Elena, 17, Aquarius - yep, I feel that my zodiac sign says a lot about me already. So, what more to say.. I absolutely adore books. Always have, always will. I'm the kind of person who has piles of books lying around in her room which pisses her Virgo mom off, cause "it's messy, you have too many books for your own good". I certainly can't leave a bookshop without buying something and, I don't know, I guess I just feel comfortable when surrounded by books, knowing I always have something to read when I feel like it.

And that is that. Love the group, by the way. And as I found a perfect website to buy books with free delivery everywhere, I'm probably gonna just buy all of the books we're reading. :)

message 1818: by Aaliyah (new)

Aaliyah Hi I'm Lea I'm a teen and im from London. I'm currently going to school and wanting to become either a writer or Psychiatrist when I am older. I love love love reading it's just so amazing and I want to be the next Richelle Mead or *SIGH* Stephenie Meyer or J.K Rowling.

Allison | 1 comments Hi everyone! My name is Allison, I'm 20, and I am a college student in Arizona. I'm a pre-vet student & going to be applying for vet school starting in June! I am a strict YA reader. That being said, I love dystopian novels and contemporary novels. Romance is always a plus in my book! I'll read anything that can keep my attention and help me stray away from my piles of homework for a nice little break.

Kamryn I'm Kamryn, but my nickname is Kiwi (^-^) I seriously love reading and I love singing, basketball, and writing. I have dreams of becoming a forensic science technician and for the people that don't know what that is, think Hodgins off of Bones or Abby off of NCIS. I love making friends, I'm fourteen, and I am in the middle of writing a book.

message 1825: by Patty (new)

Patty Blount (patty_blount) | 2 comments Hi!

I just learned about this group from today's #YALITCHAT and thought I'd see what you're about. I'm a YA author (I won't talk about the book here) and avid reader. I'm really looking forward to hearing from other readers -- especially teens -- what you like, what you don't like in YA fiction.

message 1826: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi I'm Athena

I live in Australia and I'm in my early teens

Books I love:
Harry Potter by JK Rowling
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Percy Jackson (and Rick Riordan's other series)
The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare
Divergent by Veronica Roth
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien
The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa
Crewel by Gennifer Albin
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Stravaganza series by Mary Hoffman
The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis
Lorien Legacies (I Am Number Four) by Pittacus Lore

Books I Really Want To Read:
Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare
The Host by Stephenie Meyer (even though I hated Twilight this one sounds a lot better)
Tithe by Holly Black
Delirium by Lauren Oliver
The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien

Other Things I Love:
Pirates of the Caribbean
Most movies based on books (except for Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief; that was terrible)
Doctor Who

I love Dystopian, Realistic YA Fiction, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy and lots of other genres that I can't think of right now...

message 1827: by Patty (new)

Patty Blount (patty_blount) | 2 comments Hi, Athena! Thanks for your list. I've read many of these -- The Host was really quite good, given Twilight. It was such a unique premise. You've heard of the 'love triangle'? This book has sort of a love rectangle. You have to read it to 'get' it :)

Nice to 'meet' you!

message 1828: by Brooke (new)

Brooke (brookeluvsbooks) Hey everyone I'm Brooke and I just started me second semester of college. I love reading and have a hard time finishing my homework because all I want to do is read. :)

message 1829: by Danielle (new)

Danielle (ramblingbooks) Hi guys! I'm Danielle, I'm 19, and have also started my second semester of college. I'm an English major aspiring to become a book editor for a publishing house someday because I cannot picture myself doing anything that is not related to books. My interests include reading (duh!), baton twirling, hockey (watching, not playing. Couldn't skate to save my life), and obsessing over the Backstreet Boys (I've been in love with them since I was 4...I can't seem to outgrow them, lol) :)

message 1830: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi, I'm Sam. I am 17, and currently taking a mini break from studying for my exams to write this. On the subject of writing I am an aspiring author, and I like to draw, but I'm not very good at either of these things. But whatever.

message 1831: by Imran (new)

Imran Siddiq (imransiddiqwriter) | 10 comments Hi
I'm one of those writers that's been trying for a while to get an agent - no such luck yet - though have had good comments. (one day it will happen)

So - in the meantime, I've decided to self publish with my debut - click my name to see it.

I'm 34, from Leicestershire, UK, work full-time but sacrifice hours and hours of free time to write, edit, do artwork, redraft, tweet, facebook, forums, etc.

Writing can be a real juggling act, but I love it.

My preferred genre is YA Science Fiction with Romance.

I've been reading since I was 4 and have always loved to read about preteen and teen issues. I suffer from depression and anxiety so reading helps me get away from myself for a while. :)

Sarah | 3 comments Hey everyone!
My name is Sarah I'm a junior at Ohio State University majoring in Childhood Education with a focus in English. I have been in love with reading since I was little, but I'll admit it was my adventures with Harry Potter that made me truly become an avid reader. I read all kinds of different genres, but I basically always find myself reading within the wonderful world of teen literature. As always though, I am open to suggestions! I hope to learn a lot through this group,so I can't wait to start discussing with you all!! :)

message 1837: by Audra (new)

message 1838: by Meaghan (new)

Meaghan | 7 comments Hey there,

My name is Meaghan. I'm 23 and a microbiology major in Oregon. I've long been a fan of reading and my love for YA books started with Madeleine L'Engle and continued from there. I read anything from horror to fantasy to biographies but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for YA novels. I'm always open to recommendations and I'm also always willing to give some. Within the YA branch of books I'm willing to read any type of book. I'm partial to paranormal romance themes but I've also been a long time addict for books similar to those written by Sarah Dessen. Anyway, happy reading!

message 1839: by Rose (new)

Rose (rosevalentin) Moin!

I'm Rose, and I'm a 24 year old film critic and freelance editor. I grew up on Cape Cod, MA, USA and after completing my bachelors degree in the States, I moved to Ireland in 2010 to get my masters degree. Despite my plan to find myself a lovely Irish lad, I instead met my future husband who hailed from Germany. So I am currently based in Hamburg, Germany.

Recently, I have really gotten into reading a lot of young-adult fiction (because its so easy and fun). I am thinking of starting to write reviews here at Goodreads and joining in a bit with the community more, so here I am! Looking forward to the discussions guys!

message 1840: by Katie (new)

Katie Hello everybody :)

My name is Katie, I am 24 years old and I live in Missouri, USA. I love YA books, and am looking forward to discussing this years books with the group :)

Esmeralda Hi I'm Esma I'm 13 years old and I'm obsessed with reading all my friends think its weird but this quote I heard made me feel better "A person who reads lives many lives before they die. A person who never reads lives one life and dies" so I read at least maybe 5 books a month. I love YA books their very interesting. My favorite authors are Cassandra Clare, Veronica Roth. They are both amazing. :)

message 1845: by B.B. (new)

B.B. Shepherd (bbshepherd) | 7 comments Hi, I'm B. I've worked with children and youth of all ages since I was eighteen but admit I enjoy teens the most. I'm currently writing a series from a young adult perspective called The Glister Journals.

I read all genres but the last few years I've had little time to read for fun. Now I'd like to concentrate on some of the new YA titles that are out so I'm open to recommendations!

message 1846: by Venise (new)

Venise Webb (vwebb) | 7 comments Hi, everyone! I'm really excited about being here. I'm an avid reader, especially of YA books. I probably read about 20 a month, which hinders things for me because I am also a writer. I just published my first book this month.

I love reading YA books, and I love talking about them. I'm not a teen but I'm passionate about this genre because I think this is a critical time for young people to discover their passion in literature. Plus, there is some pretty great books out there now.

I really don't have any other hobbies or passions but I decided to be more well-rounded this year and open myself up to new things. So, I am also learning to knit. Not to great at it :)

message 1847: by Savannah (new)

Savannah | 1 comments Hello, I am savannah. I was born in Vermont, but left for New York when i was nine. I still consider myself a Vermonter. I am a writer. I love cats. And baking pastries. I love reading a lot. I knit things all the time, I just knit myself some leg warmers. I am a senior in High school, and I can't wait for College.

message 1848: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 5 comments Hey everyone! my name is Nicole and I live in Utah, but have lived in Phoenix and Nashville as well. I prefer the desert and Nashville was a really difficult climate for me, although this winter has been extremely cold and snowier than I would have expected. I'm considering a move to southern California or Hawaii. Dangit!

I love books, so much that I majored in English literature in college and then got an extremely useful degree in Folklore ;). I intended to become a professor, but then got married and followed my husband around the country. He got a job as a recording engineer in Nashville, which is why we lived there for a while, and then we had a son and moved back to Utah.

The mountains are great!

I love reading YA books, sci-fi, fantasy, paranormal, regular old fiction, chick-lit, welp, pretty much anything. I tend to dissect and analyze the heck out of books, though, so sometimes it's hard for me to turn that off and just enjoy the read.

I'm really looking forward to the A-Z challenge! And I'm looking forward to meeting interesting readers and getting book recommendations from everyone.

message 1849: by Kathy (new)

Kathy | 6 comments Hi! My name's Kathy, and I mostly read YA. I LOVE reading, so appropriately, my favorite subject is English, and I frequently get in trouble by my parents for reading instead of "straightening my priorities" aka doing homework and cleaning my room; honestly, is it my fault I have more important things to do with my life? (sorry for venting!) I'm in high school, 9th grade to be specific, and my favorite author is Ally Carter! :)
