Nicky Peacock (nickypeacock-author) | 3 comments Hi everyone!

I'm looking to put a series of blogs together all about YA books and their movie counterparts. Were the movies better than the books? Were they really bad? Were they miscast? Did it ruin the book for you?

The books I want to talk about are:

Twilight Saga
The Host
Mortal Instruments
Divergent
Beautiful Creatures

I have my own opinions, but I wanted to cast the net a bit wider and include the opinions of others too. So leave me a message here about your thoughts on any, or all of the books VS movie above.

Thank you!

Samia | 2 comments Hello Nicky,

I watched and read the first four a long time ago but the one that I really remember most right now is The Host. I read the book as soon as the twilight series was done. The book was confusing to me and there were things that I couldn't visualize. After watching the movie things started to make more sense.

As for Divergent I think this is by far my most favorite adaptation of book to Movie. I know, I know, most will say that they left out a lot of things but all in all i think they kept the essence and left out things that wouldn't affect the sequels. *Spoiler Alert* Example The relationship of Will and Christina, the people who haven't read the book and only watched the movie won't mind not knowing because these two will never end up together anyway. Edwards butchered eyes - well this is another thing that I personally don't think affects much except Peter. But peter eventually redeem himself in some way at the end.

Abby Shiner (abbyjean14) Hi Nicky, and everyone else who will read this post. :)
Of the movies you listed I have only seen The Twilight Saga and Beautiful Creatures so those are the only ones I can comment on thus far, and I have to say I was fine with both movie versions.

To be honest...I'm a Twihard so I LOVED both the books and the movies. I felt like the movies stayed true to the books, the soundtracks went along nicely, the casting was great...I'm a sucker for the whole franchise. I didn't even really mind KStew's lack of talent because I actually thought she played Bella the way I pictured her in the books. I still have a little hole in my heart because there is nothing more coming from that series...*sigh*

I also enjoyed the movie adaptation of Beautiful Creatures. I really liked that the main characters were new actors, (they may have been hoping it would take off like Twilight...nothing will ever take off like Twilight). Again, they stayed pretty close with the storyline and the casting worked for the characters. The girl who played Lena needed to work on her southern accent a bit, but that's just nit-picky.

Just one woman's opinions:)

Amphitrite (ravenclaweruditedemigodselected) | 108 comments I hated the Percy Jackson movies and then their are rumors they are making another one. Haven't they ruined it enough! The Lotus Casino looked terrible, they left out so many monsters, Aunty Em's place was supposed to look welcoming except the statues and they were supposed to be the only ones there. Then they were to lazy to change Annabeth's hair until the second movie. The whole first movie evolved around finding the pearls which took only a chapter to receive them in the book. Not to mention they keep putting Luke in experiences that should have killed him. How did they explain him living after landing in the water in the first movie? Oh wait they don't! The director had no idea what he was doing and the actors didn't even read the book before starring in the movie. Then in the second movie they resurrected Kronos to soon and Luke is left in another death situation by landing in the cyclopes cave. How are they going to explain him getting out of there if they do make another movie? Oh wait they probably won't!!! And seriously mist in a bottle and leaving out the guinea pig scene. The mom didn't even kill Gabe in the movie and the oracle was totally left out of the first movie. If they can't make the movie match anywhere close to the book due to the budget then don't make the movie!!!
