Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments While I would love to have doorstoppers for all categories, it’s also worth considering that if we read shorter novels we might stand a chance of completing twice, so I’m not going to be hugely militant about page length 😉

message 55: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Let's vote on the straights.

Small Straight

Option one: 1,2,3,4

Option two: 2,3,4,5

Option three: 3,4,5,6

Which do you like best?

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I just thought of something. Aside from reaching 27 points in section #1 for the bonus points, it doesn’t really matter how many pages we read per book, as long as each book is over 100 pages, because we can earn an unlimited amount of points in this challenge. How quickly we finish the tasks is more important... Because each time we finish all of the tasks, we start all of the tasks over, the more times we complete all of the challenge tasks, the more bonus points we’ll get from section #1, and in general. I really like this, no pressure, every page counts. :)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Sorry for the scattered messages. I’m multitasking and just now having dinner.

message 58: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments True. It'd be great to get as many points as possible in the first round, to set the bar, so to speak. But speed is nearly as important as number of pages. I think we'll do just fine.

Do you have an idea of where you want some of those other books you mentioned, in section two?

message 59: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 19, 2019 06:05PM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) The Small Strait requires us to read 4 books and the Large Straight requires 5 books....

I’d love my “The Witch of Blackbird Pond” read to work for Option #1 of the Small Straight, if the sequence is 1, 2, 3, 4. :)

“When Hope Prevails” and “Shattered will work for the Christian fiction genre. :)

message 60: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 19, 2019 06:06PM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I’d love to read “Beyond the Moon” for the second task of the Small Straight, and “Nightbooks” for the third task in the Small Straight, with a 1, 2, 3, 4 sequence. :)

message 61: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 19, 2019 06:13PM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) My primary reading goals right now include finishing my books for the N.E.W.T.s challenge, finishing book series I’ve already started, and reading books to review that were sent to me by publishers. 🙂

I hope you all are having a nice day/night! 🙂

message 62: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments We have 62 days to read 33 books, if I’m counting right. So as a team we need to complete a book roughly every other day to finish once and every day to finish twice. If each player completes 2-3 books per week, this is going to be easy!

message 63: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Monique, we'll do the small straight as 1,2,3,4 and those books will get plugged in as soon as I switch tabs.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Hannah wrote: "Monique, Secret Garden and Witch of Blackbird Pond are some longtime top favorites of mine! "

I look forward to discussing our thoughts on these books once I’ve finished reading them! 🙂 They are books I’ve wanted to read for a really long time.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Thanks, Andrea! I can’t wait to get started reading tonight! 🙂

message 66: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I'm plugging When Hope Prevails and Shattered into the Four of a Kind, so that category is fully planned now.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Sounds good! 🙂

message 68: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments All right. My tracker post on this page (page two) has been updated to add in those books of Monique's.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Book Girl A Journey Through the Treasures and Transforming Power of a Reading Life by Sarah Clarkson
I’d like to read “Book Girl: A Journey Through the Treasures and Transforming Power of a Reading Life” by Sarah Clarkson next month for the Full House task, because the author’s first name (Sarah) has 3 consonants and 2 vowels. 🙂

message 71: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Okay, whoa. Let's wait a bit for the three of us with picking books. We still need to hear from Abigail and Maria and let them pick some categories. We have plenty to keep us busy these next few days to allow them a chance to speak up.

message 72: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Love the enthusiasm, though! We're going to need that in spades through this challenge. :)

message 73: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 20, 2019 04:17AM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I agree, Andrea. Good points. 🙂

I’m halfway through “Bridge to Terabithia” so far, and I’m not loving it... I’ll be finishing it this morning.

message 74: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments It’s not just a happy story, is it? I recently saw the movie version and watched the behind-the-scenes. The book was written (view spoiler)

message 75: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I'm trying to get a huge jump on Wives and Daughters today. Nothing like starting with a doorstopper. Haha! My next read should seem short even if it isn't.

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments Hooray, Monique, for posting the first review of the game!

message 78: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments My laptop broke so I haven't been online the part week but I am trying to ship things from my kindle so I am going to work on this starting tomorrow.

message 79: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments So sorry about the computer, Abigail! When you get a chance, please let us know which categories you'd like for your next three or four books. We have a tracker near the top of this page which has the books we've already planned jotted into the form and the open ones being available.

message 80: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments All right, just to check the section that only has one book needed it can be done once only, right? I'm wondering if historical fiction is one of the genres picked or no?

message 81: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments And I was looking through and want sure what categories/sections still need done/picked? Formatting for GR is odd on my kindle. Sorry for all of the questions!

message 82: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments Oh, and if historical fiction is able to be picked I'm reading Les Miserables for school, if that will fit with a category.

message 83: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments I really hate that I keep asking things but will Freedom by Faith Potts work for the red cover?

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Freedom (Liberty's Battlegrounds, #1) by Faith L. Potts
I believe “Freedom” would work for the red cover task, with red stripes covering a lot of the cover. 🙂

message 85: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments Thank you, Monique! (I don't know how to post covers in comments, so double thanks.)

message 86: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 21, 2019 12:14PM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
Les Misérables would work great for the 1st task of the Large Straight. 🙂

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) My pleasure, Abigail. I am very sorry about your laptop dying, and feel free to ask any questions you’d like. 🙂

message 88: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments Great! ☺ Sorry to be joining late!

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Abigail wrote: "Oh, and if historical fiction is able to be picked I'm reading Les Miserables for school, if that will fit with a category."

Abigail, what's the published date for Les Miz? I think that will work well for one of the straights, perhaps the Large Straight.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) No worries, Abigail. 🙂

message 91: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Abigail wrote: "I really hate that I keep asking things but will Freedom by Faith Potts work for the red cover?"

How many pages does Freedom have? I've marked it down for red cover.

message 92: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments Les Miz was published in 1862. I'm unsure of how many pages Freedom has, hmm, I have an ARC, I'll check.

message 93: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Okay, so Les Miz definitely works for the straights. I'll mark it for Large Straight, number 1.

Thanks for checking on the page count of Freedom.

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Thanks! How many pages is your edition of Les Miz?

message 97: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I'll update points in message #53 as soon as I know Abigail's books' page counts.

message 98: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments My edition is 1230 since a couple of pages are missing . . . Kinda funny, I guess. LOL!

message 99: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Okay, thanks! I don't think the missing pages will matter much in the grand scheme of things. Happy reading on that doorstopper!

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Hannah wrote: "Hooray, Monique, for posting the first review of the game!"

Thank you, Hannah (sorry for the delayed reaction). 🙂 I hope to have another book review post done tomorrow.
