Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments SECOND CARD
Do NOT post reviews for this one yet. We MUST finish the first card in total first.

I'll update this one piece by piece as we go. Let's work really hard to finish round one in the next couple of weeks.

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I was keeping it under a spoiler to save space. I can undo the spoiler, if you like.

message 206: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 26, 2019 11:18AM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I like the spoiler idea for the more lengthy posts. :)

message 207: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Are you sure we need two tracker posts, then? I'm just confused, I suppose, since I have already created one.

message 208: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 26, 2019 11:18AM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I thought of creating a second tracker post that is simpler mainly in hopes that it might be easier for Maria to understand with her screen reader.

Thank you again for everything you are doing here, Andrea! :)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Ah, okay. That makes sense. Thanks for explaining.

I’ve been keeping a link to our current tracker on message #5 so I don’t have click around to find it each time, so now I added your post as “completion summary,” Monique. I don’t know if that will be helpful to Maria or not. :)

message 212: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Great idea, Hannah. I have been moving the tracker to each fresh page, and I don't go back to each page to update all of them. Would you like me to go back and update all of them? It will take me a bit of time this first time, but I don't mind if that's needed.

message 213: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 26, 2019 11:16AM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) We really are making such great progress! 🙂

I noticed that I have claim to a lot of the unfinished tasks, and I don't want to hold up our finishing Round 1, especially when some of my planned reads can be applied to tasks in Round 2. So... if anyone finishes a book that fits either of the Small Straight #2 or #3 tasks before I finish them, feel free to claim it. These are two of the last books I plan to read in my current TBR for this challenge and they can easily be moved to Round 2. 🙂

Hannah wrote: "I’ve been keeping a link to our current tracker on message #5 ..."

Wow! That is so helpful, Hannah! 🙂

Oh, no! I just link to your fresh posts when you post them. :)

message 215: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments Okay! I will post once I finish my three books if anyone needs me to snap up a category. Abi may have something that fits the spot before I get mine done. :)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Hannah wrote: "Oh, no! I just link to your fresh posts when you post them. :)"

Ah! Lots of things are being cleared up for me today. Thanks!

message 217: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments All right. Looks like page count for Freedom has now been announced as 230 pages on Amazon, unless Abigail tells us differently.

message 218: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Oh, yikes! That's a lot less than the author had anticipated.

message 219: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments Yeah :/

message 220: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments Hmm, I may have been wrong, lol. But I finished Freedom.

message 221: by Hannah (last edited Aug 27, 2019 10:22AM) (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments I went over to update the page number and then noticed that the page numbers had been added from Amazon. Is there going to be a paperback version? Often those numbers are different.

message 222: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments Twenty books completed!! Way to go!

message 223: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I finished A Woman’s Place and will be doing up my review when I get on my computer tonight. I’ve got two other books I’m starting today. One will be for my chance book. The other can either be used for one of the unfinished categories in this round (only if anyone needs help on their claimed items) or in round two. Let me know.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Thanks for the update, Andrea! That will make 21/33 books finished for Round One. 🙂

The Killing Tide (Coastal Guardians, #1) by Dani Pettrey The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare
I'm still working on "The Killing Tide" and I've started reading "The Witch of Blackbird Pond". I'm going back and forth between these two books. 🙂

message 225: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments That’s great, Monique! Keep up the wonderful reading.

message 226: by Hannah (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I've posted a review post for Maria's first two books, with a slight change in plans. She read "With Hope and Love" for the Large Straight #4 task, and "Saving Sarah" for for Chance/Freebie task. Once she's finished reading "El Tiburon", it can be used for another task. :)

I've also marked some of my claimed tasks as "FLEXIBLE" in message #204 — these are tasks that anyone can claim if they can finish them before I do. The books I have planned for these tasks can easily be moved to Round 2. :)

message 233: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Great job, Maria! I’ll get those updated in the tracker.

Monique, thanks for the updates.

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments This evening was busy with work and family time, so I will update the tracker tomorrow.

message 236: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments I'm not going to finish Les Mis anytime soon. Do you want me to change out the book or one of you take it?

message 237: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments (I’m not surprised. That’s a super heavy read.)

message 238: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments We’ll still need it in the next round. Do you have an audio version to help cruise a bit? I can leave it in the spot until we’re about done with the full card, but thanks for being flexible.

All right, I just didn't want to hold back the slot I'll read as much as I can.

message 240: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments No worries. When we get close, we’ll check back in with you.

message 241: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 30, 2019 03:28PM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) I haven't gotten a lot of reading done yesterday or today because I've been working on my blog... Sadly, I had to take a step back with my blog today and temporarily remove my posts to look into copyright laws in regards to using book cover images and book synopses from the backs of books on a blog. I can't risk getting sued for unlawfully using copyrighted images or text in my blog. I'm learning the ins and outs of this.

I hope you all are having a blessed week! :)

message 242: by Hannah (last edited Aug 30, 2019 03:41PM) (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments As long as you source the book covers from someplace like Amazon or the publisher’s website (as opposed to Googling images for the book and using one in a setting that might have been posted on Instagram) those are marketing photos that can be used as you need. You can also take your own photos and use those. :)

Basically, if the publisher shares it for marketing purposes, that’s good...just not quoting from people’s posts or pictures unless they give you the okay.

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) Thank you so much for that information, Hannah! :)

message 244: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (bookwormhannah) | 1527 comments Sure!

Since I’m a librarian at Goodreads, we have to abide by the same cover copyright sorts of rules. :)

Abigail, if an audio would help, here’s the free one on LibriVox. It’s also listed in their app if you have a smartphone. https://librivox.org/group/296?primar...

message 246: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Monique, when I did interviews and author guest articles on my blog, several authors told me to just snag the covers and book blurbs from Amazon or Goodreads. Others sent me the info by email.

message 247: by Abigail (new)

Abigail Harris (authorabigailkay) | 174 comments Thanks, Hannah!

I've always copied/pasted covers and blurbs off of Goodreads or Amazon.

message 248: by Monique the Book Geek (last edited Aug 31, 2019 04:04PM) (new)

Monique the Book Geek (moniquethebookgeek) You all are making me feel much better about the concerns I'm having over my blog! Thank you! :)

Abigail, I also saw the Librivox audiobook of Les Misérables on YouTube, here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list... (in case you can't or don't want to download anything to listen). :)

message 249: by Andrea (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments Yesterday was super busy for me. The one moment I had to update the tracker was in the middle of a rainstorm, so I didn’t feel comfortable plugging in my laptop then. Top priority today! Then I’ll be trying to finish the book I’m reading. About 47% to go. :)

message 250: by Andrea (last edited Aug 31, 2019 09:32AM) (new)

Andrea Cox (andreacox) | 4741 comments I moved one of my books from the second card to my chance spot on the first card, because I'm trying to finish it today. Yippee!
