Leave a comment below with your first impressions. This short story collection is by the same author who wrote Story of Your Life, which includes the story that the 2015 film Arrival is based on.

I found this to be an exhilarating and thought-provoking collection of stories. Chiang writes with a haunting clarity and focus that, even when the stories seem unlikely, they're grounded in real concepts and language. You feel like these things could truly happen! My favorite stories were the first and last: The Merchant and the Alchemist's Gate and Anxiety Is the Dizziness of Freedom.
Every story had an origin, as explained at the end by the author. Which origin was the most interesting to you? Were any surprising?
