Duration: October 1st - October 31st

October can be a very fun time of year. There are plenty of activities all month long to participate in. The list below has ten categories that are in the month of October. Next to the category names are criteria for that subject. A book you read must meet either the category itself or the criteria either on the cover or in the book's content. Tell us what criteria was met for each.

1. Homecoming: football, high school, school dance, disco ball, prom king/queen, tiara/crown, parade, pep rally
2. World Series: baseball, softball, professional athlete, baseball cap, chewing tobacco/dip, hot dogs
3. Orchard: apples, apple cider, apple pie, hayride, scarecrow, doughnuts
4. Autumn/Fall: leaves, trees, bonfire, jacket, raking, hot coco
5. Columbus Day: ship/boat, sea, compass, travel, journey, pioneer
6. Sweetest Day: candy, chocolate, flowers, jewelry, date, candle light
7. Pumpkins: jack-o-lanterns, gourds, pumpkin seeds, orange (color)
8. Fall TV: television show, tv, cable, dvd, celebrity
9. Halloween: trick-or-treating, costume, vampire, witch, princess, zombie

Easy: Read 3 books from 3 categories
Moderate: Read 6 books from 6 categories
Hard: Read 9 books from all 9 categories

Example: Homecoming - Carrie by Stephen King (prom queen)

*Notes for non-US residents:

- Columbus Day is celebrating Christopher Columbus who "discovered" North America. Basically it's just a bank and government holiday.

- Sweetest Day is treated the same as Valentine's Day, although much less popular. It originated in Chicago when a wealthy man would buy sweets for all of the children in the children's' hospitals around the city on the same day every year. Somehow it evolved into a fake Valentine's Day.

Tabitha Conall | 2 comments Hi! I'm new. Nice to meet you. :) I love challenges, so I'd like to join in.

I'm going to start with Easy, partly because I'm having some trouble finding books that fit. I might increase it to Moderate later in the month. I actually have four instead of three, so I'll go ahead and list them all and add a couple more if I can. (Maybe I'll get some ideas from the rest of you. :) )

5. Columbus Day: Dance Upon the Air --my edition has a boat, the sea and a dock on the cover

6. Sweetest Day: Briar Rose -- my edition has a rose on the cover

7. Pumpkins: Halloween Heat VI -- jack-o-lantern on the cover

9. Halloween: Wickedest Witch -- witch on the cover

It took me to the end of the month, but I finished all four books above - yay!
