Aria I thought this book was incredibly boring. I absolutely loved kelley's darkest powers and darkness rising seies but.... I couldn't even get past page 30 of this book. Am i the only one who feels this way?

sam I didn't love this book either, I expected it to be better, it could get better as the series goes along but so far I'm not impressed. I absolutely loved her DP and DR series, especially her DP series I love Derek. And I liked her adult series but you might not be interested in those.

i love derek too! The DP and DR series are two of my favourite series ever. I'll try some of her adult books.

Nikki I didn't love this book, I kind of endured it. It had a strange plot, and the main characters weren't developed that well. I'm disappointed in this book, and because of all the fuss, I had high expectations for it.

Mara I personally think it's one of her best books.

Bobby Karmakar I read her adult work and this is my first of hers that is YA. I was very excited for this as she personally told me it's high fantasy and one she dreamed of writing. I loved the world she built so I gave it a 3 for that reason but, this novel was terribly slow. A critical me would've given it a 2. My friend also picked up her first YA novel and said it's slow as well and couldn't get past the first page. I heard much praise for Derek so I hope to get to that story soon one day but it seems like her YA is slow paced while her adult isn't? I look forward to the sequel though and hope it picks up!

Kin I thought the book was good, but I totally get where your coming from.

I think in this book it may have been kind of slow because she had to create a new world you know? With the other series the were still in the 'human' world. this one went to magic and fantasy.

The Darkest Powers and the Darkness Rising Trilogies have really stuck with me though. I hope some day she does resumes them. She left us hanging, I want more.

Sarah [tome raver] i am glad to see that i'm not alone about my feelings toward the book and its characters though everyone i have talked to in person said that it was so good so i was going to try it again

Bobby Karmakar Okay, now that I have read the sequel long ago this year, Empire of Night is flipping EPIC! Even if you didn't like Sea of Shadows, read the sequel. Empire of Night was the great escape of fantasy I needed at that time it came out (when I read it). Now I'm excited for the final book, Forest of Ruin. And the cover for it is GORGEOUS!!

Brittany Leigh I loved both books. But I absolutely adore high fantasy and read primarily HF, so it isn't hard for me to enjoy a HF book. I expect the first book to be slow, with world building.
