Bookworm | 85 comments What is a book that gets a lot of bad reviews, but you secretly love it? Or a guilty pleasure book.

Mine: The Host (The Host, #1) by Stephenie Meyer
I don't know if this book is widely hated but I know the author gets a lot of flack, and usually when I mention it as a book I like, people respond with "oh, I hated Twilight"...

Lynne Stringer | 344 comments I love The Host and I love Twilight. I'm used to people thinking I'm nuts anyway, so I don't care. :-) I would have mentioned Twilight to answer your post. :-)

Booked with Caroline (bookedwithcaroline) I read Twilight when it was initially released in middle school and this was the series that really triggered my love for books. It’s very nostalgic to me but I’m not sure if I would love it the same if I read it again as an adult. I’ll have to do a re-read soon.
As for a book that many people seem to dislike, but I love, I would say The Black Witch Chronicles by Laurie Forest. There are obvious trigger warnings especially focused on racism, physical abuse and sexual assault. The group of main characters take strides and attempt to overcome these hateful acts in order to forge a better world not without their own moral trip ups and personal growth. Which is why I love this series. Filled with magic, resiliency, hate to love relationships and against the grain conformity all while saving the world!

Shaw McKnight (shawmcknight) | 204 comments Twilight was the best but every time I mention loving it I get a look or a ‘you’re one of those people?’ remarks.

G.H. Eckel (gheckel) | 9 comments I liked the story better than the writing. It’s funny what resonates with readers at what time. Who could have predicted that a vampire romance would hit a grand slam.

I liked Twilight but the thought of Bella being torn between two people only to find out that one only had feelings for her was really for her child. To me that is kinda messed up

I enjoyed Twilight as well, the movies were good too. But I'm always a bit ashamed of admitting it because everyone seems to hate the books. Yeah the love triangle was SO stupid, Bella was a mediocre character, the imprinting on her daughter made me uncomfortable. But other than that they weren't bad at all!

Nicci Harris (nicciharris) 50 shades, and the YA version Twilight, lol.

Kimione | 2 comments Bone witch and Bright smoke, cold fire.

It's usually the opposite with me. I tend to dislike many popular books because I feel it wasn't executed well. Some have brilliant themes but poor execution.

Bone witch has flaws but maybe, because I dived into this with minimal expectations or maybe I was just in the mood of a book like this but the story and world building captured my attention and held it. It was slow paced but rich in details and culture.

Bright smoke, cold fire blended many different genres beautifully, fantasy, horror, occult, romance and it was of course written in an elegant, eloquent style.
I'm not sure how many actually loved Gilded wolves, I enjoyed that one a lot though. It nicely falls into the advanced YA domain and I particularly enjoyed the complex plot. Very few Ya plotlines poses a challenge to the mind but this one kinda did.

Maria✨ (maria_bell) | 11 comments Since everyone mentions Twilight, I think I can say that I did really like the first book, but my interest in it kept falling with every sequel and was completely gone by the last one.

I can't really remember any other book that is truly hated. I mean, I like some books that aren't really of quality, but still, not hated!

Too bad, I think I can dislike things people like easier than the opposite, haha.
