Dara (cmdrdara) Ch. 20
-Harry did the right thing telling Cedric. I would have told him as well.

-I love how Crouch Jr-Moody blames his Dark Detectors going off on the kids in the school.

-''Well, that's good,'' said Harry loudly, his temper getting the better of him, ''just as long as it's not drawn-out. I don't want to suffer.'' Harry can be really funny.

-Peeves throwing things at Harry... too funny. Rowling does the little bits of humor so well.

-The First Task is terribly exciting.

-Awww, Harry and Ron made up.

Ch. 21
-Poor Neville. He thinks Harry's going to be tortured by the Cruciatus Curse for the second task.

-Harry could have easily told Hagrid that Skeeter is an awful woman who will twist everything he says but didn't bother. He could have told him after class, sent him an owl, went down to his cabin any time, but didn't. That wouldn't serve the plot!

-Dobby has flair.

Ch. 22
-The ball's age limit never made sense to me. You can go unchaperoned into Hogsmeade in 3rd year but a ball in the great hall inside the castle is forbidden?

-''...and Snape would no sooner allow them to play games than adopt Harry.''

-Fred's sarcastic answer to Ron about why he and George wanted to borrow Pig is pretty much what I would have said. Well done, Fred.

-Harry asking Cho is downright adorable.

-Ron is so insensitive.

Ch. 23
-Hermione carry on with braces? I didn't even know she had braces. Maybe that means something different across the pond.

-Dobby is the coolest. His socks for Harry are so cute and I would totally wear them with pride.

-I want to hit Percy and tell him that nobody gives a fuck about his promotion. Out of everyone in the Great Hall, there are no fucks to be given.

-Dumbledore mentions the Room of Requirement in passing. It turned into a room filled with chamber pots for him. He really must have had to pee.

-''Fraternizing with the enemy.'' Don't mince words, Ron. Tell us how you really feel.

-Rita is eavesdropping on Hagrid. Squash the beetle, Harry!

-Karkaroff is concerned about the Dark Mark coming back. It's getting darker and he's scared. Snape seems unconcerned.

I was coming here to mention the room of requirement, but of course Dara got there first.

So the Yule ball brings back bad memories of prom. I don't remember if I tried asking more than one person, but the whole process was awful.

I'm still a bit dumbfounded I got a date. Then again I'm still rubbish at dating.

Dara (cmdrdara) I went with a friend. Want wanted to go but not find a date. Turns out, he's gay. Not like it matters and I remember prom being really boring.

I went with a coworker. My prom was memorable for unrelated reasons though.

Suzanne | 1582 comments I loved how the dance was depicted - the boys were really more interested in talking to each other and Hermione, and completely ignored their dates.

I also think this book is where I learned how to pronounce Hermione. I wonder if that is why she gave Krum lessons on her name.

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Good call on Hermione, think it was the same with me. That was one of my biggest problems with the series, pronouncing her name a bunch of different ways.

message 9: by terpkristin (new)

terpkristin Me too, with regards to how to pronounce Hermione's name. I had been calling her "hermie-own" in my head. Never seen that name, though I suspect it is more common in The UK.

Dara (cmdrdara) I think Rowling wrote that scene specifically to clear up the confusion.
