George P. | 253 comments This is a fairly widely-read book so I had no trouble getting an e-audiobook from the city library, which I'm listening to on my tablet. It is fairly long so I am only at the 15% mark, but will press on as quickly as I can. I like the writing so far; the story seems somewhat complex.
I have't read anything by Forna before, I have read one other book by a Sierra Leone writer, A Long Way Gone, which was one of our group reads last fall.

Susan Lewallen (susanlewallen) | 14 comments I've got it on my Kindle and, if my insomnia persists, I'll probably finish it this week. (I'd rather be sleeping, but this is a good second choice)

George P. | 253 comments Hopefully some others besides Susan and I are reading this novel and will be commenting later. I am 2/3 of the way through and it is "growing on me" as I progress. The psychologist has a problematic affair and the surgeon suffers from stress. I enjoy Forna's style and characters but also wonder if the novel is overly drawn-out. My next post on it will probably be on the "spoilers allowed" thread.

Hi Wim, I'd be happy to comply and apologies if I included a spoiler - but I'm not actually sure which comment you want deleted. Can you please be specific as to paragraph and sentence number. Last sentence of last para doesn't seem to be a spoiler, so I'm uncertain. Thank you!

Hi Susan,

Your post on Sep 11, 2019 at 09:31AM describes details of the plot that will fit better in the Spoilers thread, to allow folks who want to approach the story with fresh eyes the chance to do so. We often post our reviews that discuss plot points in the Spoilers thread for this reason-- even if you don't believe you gave away any particular twists. Thank you!

You can delete the whole post here and copy/paste it to the Spoilers Allowed thread.

Douglas La Rose | 1 comments I read this book a couple of years ago. It is incredible. I have spent much of my career working in West Africa, so it hit me like a ton of bricks. I wish I could read it again for the first time.

Yes, I can imagine how the book would affect you. It's a pleasure to read about places one knows. Wishing to read it again for the first time is a real tribute!
