Page 2 and Nightingale needs to put someone into a deep sleep... I'm going to go see why.

Disturbing as in ... horror? Or disturbing as in ... this crosses some magical line of good taste and acceptability?

He was also sloppy about making things come together and there were errors in the kindle edition. HUGE disappointment.

Oh, well. Mr. Leather has gone on to write many more books and win awards, so hopefully the next one in the series is more palatable? I, personally, have a problem when a book features graphic rape or molestation as mere 'decoration.' It should only be used to depict the heinousness of a situation or character, or to highlight the strength of a victim as they go on. If it's not important to the story, then it shouldn't be spelled out in graphic terms.
For our October SERIES PICK, we will continue on with Book 4 of the Jack Nightengale paranormal detective series, Nightshade by Stephen Leather. It is rated General Adult.
"In Jack Nightingale's world - where reality and the occult collide - sometimes the only way to fight evil is with evil. A farmer walks into a school and shoots eight children dead before turning the gun on himself. It's a harrowing but straightforward case - until police search the man's farm and unearth evidence of dark Satanic practices. When the perpetrator's brother approaches Nightingale, adamant that his brother was set up, it's clear that something even more sinister lurks at the heart of the case.
And there are dark forces elsewhere. A young girl miraculously returns to life, claiming she's spoken to those from beyond the grave. Those in contact with her are dying hideous deaths . . . forcing Jack Nightingale to make the hardest decision he's ever faced."
