Anita & Stacey - Portal

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Hi Anita- just posting here so I know where to find it again ;-)

Anita Reads | 436 comments Ok great :)
I'll be ready to start on the book whenever you are.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Ok. Early next wk okay?

Anita Reads | 436 comments Yes that's perfect :)
I have the whole next week off. That's a lot of reading time :)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Hi there! I started and am about 25% into it. Very confusing so far as I suppose it's supposed to be. Arizona waking up in a whole different existence and having no clue what she is doing across the country. It's alright so far- not really connecting with her yet but trying. How about you?

Anita Reads | 436 comments Hey Stace. I haven't gone that far either. I'm also a little confused about the beginning. There's something about Rupert I think. And maybe that locked door she couldn't get into has some answers. I have to finish my book for the ss challenge before I'll read more from this one. I hope that's ok:)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments That is fine. I've gotten a bit farther. It keeps the reader confused. I am not liking all the !!! all over the place. Strange how sometimes little things like that bugs me! Looking forward to figuring it out. Yes I believe Rupert is the man from the prologue "meet me two years ago" but wonder 'who' he really is...

Anita Reads | 436 comments I'll get time to read on Friday again.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Ok! Whenever;-)

Anita Reads | 436 comments Hey again,

So I've had some time to read from the book again, and I'm now about halfway. So it's totally her moms fault that everything has changed. So I'm thinking Arizona eventually will find out what her mom is hiding. It's all really strange. I really had hoped for something else when I saw this book.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments I've been waiting to see how you like it before commenting on how much I don't- and i don't really know why exactly. Technically it's written well. The concept was intereesting- it looked like a great read! But i cannot get into it at all- every character annoys the heck out me! They seem so forced perhaps? The teens seem forced into teen character but then the older boys (Harry and Kellen) are almost like 40 year old men. The !! drive me crazy.
Yes- the mother and her quantum physics company must be behind the whole bizarre thing. Their relationships are so strange. And the whole Rupert thing- they've supposebly been married for twenty years or so and their constant gooey-ness?! I've been married almost as long and, while I am happily married, we do not act like teenagers. Weird....

Anita Reads | 436 comments I'm having the same thoughts about the book. I've read a little further and Arizona has just explained herself to Kellan. I'm not fond of the characters either. They all seem too gooey gooey. I really don't understand why her mom had to change everything about them all, even their personalities (thinking about Arizona here). I can't really figure out what happened to Justin and Simla to make them act so weird.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Yes! Exactly! I suppose they will explain it all at some point but now it's just a serious of question marks and exclamation points.
And Kellen took it all pretty well, huh? And her poor real dad! The mother just cuts and pastes people from one life to another??

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Omg it just..... Ended! I turned a page and it was over! Not resolved at all. She wants you to read the next one to understand things! Nope. So disappointing

Anita Reads | 436 comments I just read a little further. And I thoroughly hate Olivia. And Kellan is such a tattletale!

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Yep. They don't get any better! I never really 'knew' who Rupert was or why she met him once and loved him so much she made a 'quantem leap'. Maybe it's explained in the next book but I won't be reading it...

Anita Reads | 436 comments Hey Stacey. I finally finished the book, and you're absolutely right about the ending. Very sudden. I knew Simla had something to do with the tampering, and I just checked the summary of the next book, and it's supposedly going to be about all the Darly kids being kidnapped (probably through the Portal or something).
I don't think I'll ever be reading on. The good thing about this book. It will help be with a bunch of challenges, and it was free. I don't have much else to say about it. Oh wait. I actually thought Ariele was bearable, but she wasn't in it so much.

I'm sorry for the horrible choice of book.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Oh that is funny! Positives in everything!! Oh who cares about the book- it was free;). I'm always up for trying new things- you never know. Yes, Ariel was the best character in the book!

Anita Reads | 436 comments I always try to find the positive things in everything.
Sheila just commented in a discussion and said something like, it's only us challenge addicts who'll keep on reading a book even if it sucks - just because it fits a couple of challenges. Haha

I got some great books read in between reading this one :)
Did you read Shadow and Bone (The Grisha, #1) by Leigh Bardugo and Glory in Death (In Death, #2) by J.D. Robb (or the In Death series in particular) I just finished these two over the weekend and loved them both.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Wow you really can read girl!! No I have not but just put the Grisha on my want to read list- thanks!

Anita Reads | 436 comments Well I had the whole week off, so I had some more reading time. (Glory in Death was on audio, so I listened to that one while doing chores :)) Otherwise, I just read before bed, and sometimes in the morning, and if nothing's on TV!

With Shadow and Bone, I was actually a little apprehensive about it, because the friends I have on GR hadn't given it very high rates, so I kept postponing it, but then I had to read it for a team challenge, and it turned out I really liked it.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments So interesting how we sometimes get 'turned on' to certain stories we've shied away from. I love Goodreads for that reason! I will get a sample and give it a try- thanks!

Anita Reads | 436 comments I had also forgotten what it was supposed to be about, so that made it interesting too.

Do you want to try and find another book to read to copensate for the horrible choice I made? :)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Sure! I'll check our books and see what we both want to read soon.

Anita Reads | 436 comments Okay. Great:)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments I just sent a sample of Soulless (Parasol Protectorate, #1) by Gail Carriger and Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days, #1) by Susan Ee to my kindle to check out- do you want to read either of those?

Anita Reads | 436 comments I would be able to read Soulless I think. I have access to that one right away. When would you like to start that one?

The other one Angelfall I'll have to check the library if it's possible to get access to it.

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Any time. I'm reading one now but easy to pause.

Anita Reads | 436 comments Ok. Well I have to finish 2 books for team challenges. I'm almost done with one of them, and the other is only 170 pages. Could we start it Monday next week?

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Sure!

Anita Reads | 436 comments Great. Would we need to make a new thread for it then. We'll start with Soulless right?
We could always read Angelfall afterwards :)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments Sounds good. Do you know how to make the thread?

Anita Reads | 436 comments OK. I just saw that Angelfall isn't available until the end of november, but I'll reserve it, and then we can start it once I have that one :)

Yes I haven't created a thread before so that would be nice :)

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments I left a message for the thread but didn't hear back!? Don't know what to do.

Anita Reads | 436 comments I saw that too. Should we sign up in the November buddy read then and see if they'll respond there?

Stacey Kennedy | 1063 comments I suppose we could!
