Welcome to the History Book Club, Elmira. We are happy that you have joined us. Thank you for your introduction and sharing your reading interests.

There are many folders where you can discuss topics that may interest you as well so please feel free to explore our many diverse threads. Here is a list of focus areas:

History Book Club's Focus Areas

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is an example of how the books you mention should look:

A Distant Mirror The Calamitous 14th Century by Barbara W. Tuchman by Barbara W. Tuchman Barbara W. Tuchman

Sean Sell | 1 comments Hello all,
I’m Sean Sell from Pennsylvania, about an hour and 40 minutes outside of Philadelphia. My ancestors came over mainly from the southwestern part of Germany, came up through Philadelphia and moved north and also out to western Pennsylvania. Grew up with Pennsylvania Dutch traditions and two Grandfathers who would always show my brother and I World War 2 movies which helped instigate my interest and passion in history. My real early passion was the American Civil War in which I remember always going to the history section and seeking out Civil War books to look at. I didn’t read much at that early age but I was always looking at the pictures. My mom would say I’ve watched the movie Gettysburg over 50 times, rewinding over and over Chamberlin’s bayonet charge down Little Round Top. Since 2020 I started to read obsessively, starting with reading Delta Force. And since that time I’ve accumulated three book shelf’s worth of books. My main interests are the two World Wars, Roman and Greek histories, the American Civl War, the Crusades, Medieval Europe, the Renaissance, the American Revolutionary War, and the Napoleonic Wars. History is simply a story of us, people, and that is what attracts me to keep reading.

I do like to read some other things sometimes. But mostly stick to nonfiction. I joined this group to keep up to date on interesting books that others are reading which I may have missed, and possibly share some of my input with the community here. I am looking forward to sharing this hobby with you guys.

Yes, Bel Canto is so lyrical. Almost every sentence shines. I noticed you like WWII books. One novel you listed is All the Lights We Can't See. I liked the intertwined two story lines, but the characters are not complex enough for me. I think I probably will give it a 3-star.

Welcome to the History Book Club, Debbie.

Tuchman
