Andrea | 1 comments Hi guys, my name is Andrea, and I'm from Tampa, Florida. I'm a pretty big history nerd, so I was stoked to find this book club. I have a BA in History from Florida State, and I am about to enter my first year of teaching middle school history. I always find it hard to choose the parts of history that interest me the most. If I had to whittle it down to my Top 3, they would most likely be the American Revolution, World War II, and the 1960's (the Civil Rights Movement, the Space Race, the Vietnam War -- so many influential things happening in one decade). When it comes down to it, I love any part of history that challenges my perspective of the world. And I love a good revolution!

Jordan Bright (brightboy92) Hi everyone, my name is Jordan and I'm from Devon in England, I'm currently doing a BA in Sociology.

I was never that interested in history (or any subject, really!) at school but since I started university 2 years ago I have started regularly reading books for the first time in my life. In doing so, I have found myself particularly drawn towards books on history and other non-fiction books.

I look forward to getting to know this group and its members :)

Welcome Andrea, we are happy that you have joined us in the History Book Club from Tampa, Florida. Thank you for your interesting introduction and outlining your current interests in history. That is exciting that you are beginning your teaching career.

Based on your areas of interest, you may want to explore the following focus areas:

American History
The Second World War
Civil Rights

There are many other folders where you can discuss topics that may interest you as well. Here is a list of focus areas:

History Book Club's Focus Areas

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is an example of how books you mention should look:

The British Are Coming The War for America, Lexington to Princeton, 1775-1777 by Rick Atkinson by Rick Atkinson Rick Atkinson

I have a BA in English with a minor in philosophy from Calif. State U. Northridge and an MA in English (Creative Writing) from UC Davis.

From an early age, I was fascinated with history. In addition to a general interest in history, I have a specific interest in family history and genealogy, which I have been researching since the age of 9.

I see family history as "history at ground level." While the history of kings, princes, and presidents is compelling, there's a lot to be learned about life as it is lived from studying people who may not have been powerful or celebrated in their time.

Casey Hi, I’m Casey Robb, a life-long history buff. I’ve lived in Texas, Mexico, Arizona, and Northern California. My degrees include Psychology, Physical Therapy, and Civil Engineering. I am now retired, and an older single mom due to adopting late in life, and I’m hoping my teenagers catch the history bug like I did from my own mom in my youth. In my traveling days (before kids), I visited a lot of historical sites in Mexico, Central America, the Soviet Union (1979), Europe, England, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Turkey, and Greece. I am now happy to be an armchair traveler.

My interests include everything, but my top choices would be:
World War II (it’s personal -- my dad was in Patton’s Army and his cousin was a survivor of the Bataan Death March); Ancient History (e.g. Alexander the Great); American History (a new interest); and the History of Medicine and Diseases.

Thanks for being there – I finally found my people, my tribe!

Alexandra Dawson Hello,

My name is Alexandra Dawson and I currently live in the UK. I am English, however I am also a Canadian citizen. I have recently graduated with a 1st class degree in Biological Sciences and I am going to be studying a PGCE in Biology from September to become a secondary school science teacher.

I adore learning about the history of cultures different to my own for example reading about the many dynasties of china. I also love Greek and Roman history as well as the middle ages. I think history is of vital importance as it lead us to where we are today and can give us a greater understanding of why cultures exsit in the forms they do and how they are always changing.

I look forward to meeting fellow history lovers on here and discussing the books.

Welcome Gail, my niece is at Columbia; but a Freshman - and this has been such a disappointing year for her having to moving off campus.

You are so right - what a year it has been! I have said on other threads that it has been the year of the pandemic, impeachment, killer hornets, the air force admitting that the UFO videos of the Navy pilots and Air Force have some merit, shelter in places, the year of the mask and bottles of hand sanitizer all over the house and vehicle, students being home schooled with virtual learning for everyone else and of course - your Senior year as of March or April became an on line set of courses.

So sorry that this has happened to you Gail and others.

1776 by David McCullough by David McCullough David McCullough

Lincoln on the Verge Thirteen Days to Washington by Ted Widmer by Ted Widmer (no photo)

The above are the books you mentioned and that is how we add citations so that the powerful Goodreads software can link all of the citations to the books and authors themselves with clickable urls and if you look to the white space on the right hand side of the page as you will see on each and every thread on the site - all of the books and authors are mentioned on each thread if the citations are added.

One of my assisting moderators will be along shortly to officially welcome you with some helpful threads to get you started.

Glad to have you with us and I wish you the very best - for your bound to be - wonderful - future.

Regards,
Bentley

and hope to start this book very soon,

The Splendid and the Vile A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz by Erik Larson

My day job is in the world of supply chain management but in my spare time I enjoy reading history and visiting historical sites. My wife and daughters tend to remind me of my “history nerdiness” at times but, again, very excited to be a part of this discussion group

Welcome Chris, we are happy that you have joined us in the History Book Club from the Nashville, Tennessee area. Thank you for your interesting introduction and outlining your current interests in history.

Based on your areas of interest, you may want to explore the following focus areas:

American History
American Civil War
The Second World War

This is an example of how the books you mentioned should look:

The Presidents Noted Historians Rank America’s Best--and Worst--Chief Executives by Brian Lamb by Brian Lamb Brian Lamb

The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz by Erik Larson Erik Larson
