Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling

This is my favorite Harry Potter book. I love everything about it: the Knight Bus, the Marauder's Map, Sirius, Buckbeak, Hermione punching Malfoy, Professor Lupin, the patronus charm, Quidditch....EVERYTHING.

But, what I love most is the insight to Harry's dad's life at Hogwarts. Lots of good and some bad. I love that we learn about James's friends and the hijinx they got into, their strong friendships, and ultimately what led to James's and Lily's death. I love that when Harry was at his most desperate, his dad found a way to be there with him and give him the courage to fight.

While this book still doesn't have a ton of complexity compared to the final four books of the series, this is the first one that really starts to give us more of Voldemort's backstory and lays the foundation for the more complex plots to come.

Ugh, I love these books so much.

We’re reading the illustrated version of this at the moment. Sooooo good!
