Jane (PS) | 24334 comments 1. Introduce yourself to your team. Let your team members know where you are from. This is a great to know when themes are announced and when team-mates can expect other members to post their book choices.

2. Team Captain - reserve a couple of posts in this thread tracking your team's book selection and completion. (Alternatively they could convert a chat comment to the tracking post/s.)

3. Name your team. Using this round's theme of International Awards, come up with an award from anywhere in the world for your team name. We are an open/public group with no age limit, so please make sure any chosen name is smart, not smutty ;)

Please PM your name to Jane(PS) by early Wednesday 4 September.

4. If you have a private profile, please 'friend' your team-mates. This is really important, because without this, your team-mates can't see your shelves to select a books under option 2.

5. Please post your book selections/completions in the format provided below. (This format is also posted in both the Q&A and Sign-Up threads.) We need to know the week that each book corresponds to, the page numbers, and how the book qualifies including names to lists/shelves (where applicable), etc. I can't stress this enough. When in doubt - link it*!

* don't link to your review in your completion post - reviews in your completion posts should be included in full within that post.

You don't want to start reading a book and then find it doesn't meet the requirements because some information (eg page count or theme link) was missing from your original post.

I will be monitoring this and your book will not be considered complete until I am satisfied that your selection and completion posts comply with the format rules of the challenge.

Remember - you can ONLY change your book selection in the week that the theme is called.

6. You MUST check in with your team each week, ideally once the theme is announced. Please let your team know if you expect to have spotty communication or are on holidays or having an operation.

7. When you post the completion of your book, you must post a review; enough for us to know you have actually read the book. Please don't link to a review. You must post the review in this thread.

8. Re-reads are allowed but you can't read the same book twice within this challenge.

9. There is no prize for the winning team - bragging rights only :)

10. Each week, the theme will be announced in the Q&A Annoucement thread. The full list of themes announced during this round will be maintained in msg 1 of that thread.

The Rule on the Pass Option
* Each team can only have ONE member using their pass each week.
* Each member can only use that pass once each 5 weeks.
* This means that one or two team members (dependent upon the size of your team) will miss using a pass in each 5 week block.
* No-one can use the pass option in the last week of the challenge.
* In the final week if Option 2 is used, members must select their book from another team. This will be advised in the week 11 announcement.

The format for selection posts Option 1:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
How the book qualifies - please link or name the qualifying bookshelf/list where applicable (link if possible).
If the theme is based off the bookcover or a letter in the title etc, please just repeat the theme.

The format for selection posts Option 2:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Page numbers
Name of the team-member, their star rating, the date they read the book.

Format for completion posts:
Week #
Bookcover/link
Rating (1-5)

Please DO NOT CHAT in these selction/completion posts. It needs to be super clear.

If you 'waffle' about your decided book - please REPOST your selection once you decide. DO NOT go back and edit your waffling post.

⚣Michaelle⚣ (michaelle) | 1187 comments Hey guys! This will be my 3rd round of PtP (I think)...and I love how it's really non-stressful. I'm entirely too competitive and with some challenges I end up reading books I normally wouldn't (or are only "Meh" about) because I'm chasing points. So glad that's not an issue with this one!

I live in Vegas but my sleep schedule is outta whack so I'll be checking the thread at randomly seeming times. I will try to make a point of being here to post the announced themes at the scheduled time once the Mod gives us the heads up. (But if I'm not, anyone can do it - just make sure that if there is a list assigned that you include it, too, please!)

Speaking of themes...be sure to add books that fit to the appropriate lists so that you aren't limited in your selections. I always manage to end up wanting to read a book that should fit a theme, or belongs on the list but forget to put it there so that I can!! Don't be like me!!

Finally, I'm crap at coming up with team names but like Danielle I prefer the witty ones. Mostly the kind that don't have a connection to the arbitrarily assigned original team number. But keep the suggestions coming and we'll vote on them once we have a few more so that we have our name by the deadline (Wednesday). Majority rules...even if it's got "four" or 4 in the name. LOL!

Can't wait to start!!

Hi Team,
I’m Ezi. I’m a wife and mom of three, in Dallas, Texas. I love this game. I’ve played before and it helps me get to books in my TBR.

Team names: Fantastic Four; Read 4 Food

I do prefer names with the number in it 🤣

Hi everyone,

I'm Danielle. Single mom to two teens and a bluenose pitbull in Phoenix, Arizona. I work from home now and I'm retired from the Air Force. I've played this game before but it's been awhile.

Team Names that have nothing to do with four I just like them:
Reading Between the Wines
Books and Brew
Why Did I pick this book?

I’ve played PtP for the last 3-4 rounds and been a captain the last couple. I was already friends with Fran but I have sent out requests to everyone else.

I’m not very creative but here’s a few suggestions for team names:
Top Per -four -mer

A few team name ideas based loosely on the awards theme for this round-

Fame and Glory
Swag Sisters

You just have to not fall behind by more than 2 books.

The next theme call would normally be Friday afternoon 4pm US EST, however just to confuse everyone, I am making an early call before my flight takes off - most likely my time Thursday night which is early Thursday in the US :D

Not a big deal when we are still in the early weeks of the game :) Kat is making the third week's call and then I'll be back on deck.

Shadows Fall by J.K. Hogan
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Loved this and sure wish there was another book to follow this one up. I really loved the characters and the gypsy aspects of this book. Although the villain was obvious early I still really enjoyed it. There were a few holes in the story but nothing that stopped me from really enjoying this. I loved grandma and how it really brought the gypsy aspects to light. I really loved the relationship between Charlie and Titus. I wish we had another book - this one left some loose threads like Charlie and his partner's relationship and of course Titus' missing employee. (Although there were some loose threads - it didn't end on a cliffhanger).

So 4 stars with a why isn't this book a series? We NEED another book.

Rating & Review: ⭐⭐
this one was pretty bad. It is a prime example of the power imbalance in the ton as well as a verbally abusive relationship.

Charlotte had a tryst in a garden during a masquerade party and she lost her virginity to a stranger with silver hair. Three years after she compromised himself, she finds out her masked lover's identity. Charlotte marries Alex knowing that he doesn't remember sleeping with her but now he thinks his wife has given herself to another. Alex proceeded to help insult after insult on Charlotte and she didn't do much to really explain their misunderstanding. She just turned into a wilting flower while Alex raged like a bull.

I have read a good number of Eloisa James books and this was by far the worst. The heroine was so weak and forgave so easily, while the hero was a jerk and a bully. The apology and weak attempt to redeem Alex didn't make this novel any better at the end. I finished the audiobook thinking that I am glad I've read many of her books before this one because if this had been my first story by the author, I would not try her again. Her novels are so much more entertaining and enjoyable. This one left me feeling unsettled and lacking confidence on Alex's ability to cope with any disappointments from Charlotte in the future.

Review: Okay, first off: Why isn't this a series? There were so many loose plot threads there at the end that another one needs to address. ((view spoiler)) Also, the writing was really good! I immediately fell into the story and loved almost everything about it.

In my reading experience, characters with gifts like Titus has either work with the police, are police or PIs or use their ability in some way. In this story, Titus goes to extreme lengths to keep the ghosts at bay, ignoring them completely and blocking them from accessing him when he can. At least, until he absolutely can't anymore. And not for lack of trying. I loved that aspect as I think a lot of us, even while knowing we might have a family history of such talents, would freak out a bit - if not push it aside to not get involved. After all, who do the police question first when someone comes forward with seemingly impossible information? Who wants to go through that?

Luckily, Titus is spared a huge chunk of suspicion due to his involvement with Charlie. (Well, other than what comes from Charlie's partner.) Charlie has spooky experiences of his own that make him more susceptible toward believing Titus. Which - YAY! for acceptance. But also felt a little contrived, convenient.

Also, that bit where he and his partner take things into their own hands? Yeah, that's why cases go south IRL and criminals get off...so it rubbed me wrong considering how much was at stake. (But I liked the "ride or die" partners mentality of going big and risking their careers if for no other reason than it showed how close they were.)

So, lots to love...a little to nitpick over because the rest of it was so good, so engaging, that I wanted it to be perfect. It almost was.

Yeah that part were the partners went vigilante drove me nuts too! It's really the only part of the book I didn't like. Still I really wish she'd write a second book. There was chatter years ago that she would but this seems to be one of those books where the sequel just never happens!
