The Infected (Infected, #1) by Scott Sigler series by Scott Sigler

Even now when I have an itch that won't go away I get a bit paranoid about it

Seconded.

Also,
The War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells
At the Mountains of Madness by H. P. Lovecraft
Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell, Jr.
Michael Shea

There are quite a few novellas that fit this, including "The Autopsy" by Michael Shea; "Something Had to be Done" by David Drake; and "The Wide, Carnivorous Sky" by John Langan.

message 18: by Justin (new)

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 3047 comments Given the popularity of recent events and beliefs in UFOs and extraterrestrial life outside our planet, this might be an interesting genre to consider writing in. Also, the Alien franchise may have some influence as well.
