I have that book too! But I'll read it next month as I have a huge backlog and it's out in March"

I am new to Net Galley so don't have much of a backlog. I did really like that book. Enjoy it when you get to it!

CD {Boulder Blvd} (boulderblvd) | 38 comments I finished Laura Griffin's At the Edge books (1 story) and was so disappointed as I generally love her books.

I just started Deep Dark Deep Dark (Tracers, #10) by Laura Griffin by Ms. Griffin and it's more in her usual style. I am definitely enjoying this one...

Zippergirl | 49 comments Onward . . . Just starting a YA book, something I don't often do. Here goes nothing.

The Vengeful Half The Vengeful Half by Jaclyn Dolamore

This sounded interesting: This novel contains interior comics and art by the author.

message 169: by Zippergirl (last edited Mar 05, 2016 07:36AM) (new)

Zippergirl | 49 comments Just finished The Vengeful Half and it was like fantasy on prozac--not a lot of real highs or lows, but a congenial little story. The illustrations are cute/funny sketches by the author, who also drew the cover art. I thought all the characters pretty much looked the same, but I did lol when Jaclyn popped in, a la Alfred Hitchcock, and explained how the Hidden Lands came to her twenty years ago after watching a particular Tim Burton movie, with drawings of some of earliest incarnations of several main characters.

Zippergirl | 49 comments Is this group away on holiday?

Reading a British rural police detective and sidekick with Asperger's ramble, it's got a cult obsessed with purple and a Tardis-like time machine and a strange catatonia spreading thru the countryside. Character-driven plot. Second in series.

Saving Anna Saving Anna by Toni Allen

Zippergirl | 49 comments Life Moves Pretty Fast: The Lessons We Learned from Eighties Movies Life Moves Pretty Fast The Lessons We Learned from Eighties Movies (and Why We Don't Learn Them from Movies Anymore) by Hadley Freeman

This is a really fun and thoughtful book about the last of the fun studio movies, before companies that manufacture laundry detergent bought them all out and the world market (read: china) became more important than entertainment.

Here's a look at the chapter headings, though many many many more movies are discussed:
Dirty Dancing
The Princess Bride (oh, yeah)
Pretty in Pink
When Harry Met Sally
Ghostbusters
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Steel Magnolias (sniff, sniff)
Baby Boom
Back to the Future
Batman
and Eddie Murphy's 80s Movies

Zippergirl | 49 comments Zooming through some excellent books including the allegorical The City's Son

A really cool graphic novel about a dog and his kid on a crazy-wild exploration of Manhattan, both wise and funny Max & Charlie

And a quirky.faerie tale novella The Faerie Godmother's Apprentice Wore Green

And don't miss Dominus holy cow--I'm spellbound.

It happens every time an avalanche of good books are released. I'm sure that any reader can understand that.

Dominus Dominus by Tom Fox

Do you believe in miracles? Suspend your disbelief and enter the deepest, most private salons of Vatican City.

The City's Son The City's Son (The Skyscraper Throne, #1) by Tom Pollock

The allegory of a concrete boy and a street-wise girl with a knapsack full of spray-paint cans taking on Reach, the god of urban renewal, could take place anywhere in the world: Manhattan, Rio, Hong Kong.

Denison Hatch (denisonhatch) | 1 comments Hi there! I read the note about promos, but couldn't find the groups promo folder, so I will place it here.

I'm a screenwriter and author based in Los Angeles. I wanted to share some info about my new novel, FLASH CRASH's, NetGalley listing.

Flash Crash A Jake Rivett Heist Thriller by Denison Hatch

FLASH CRASH is a technothriller and heist mystery about a "quant" at an investment bank who is blackmailed into crashing the gold market.

Here's the NetGalley link for those on Net Galley who would like to preview it:
https://www.netgalley.com/widget/open...

I've already received some nice feedback, like this from BestThrillers.com: "An absolute bullseye, reinventing the heist thriller for the information age."

And here is the Amazon page, where the book is open for Kindle pre-order now:
http://www.amazon.com/Flash-Crash-Riv...

Thanks so much!

I am sloowly plodding my way through Jane Steel, which is a perfectly fine book that I just cannot seem to connect with.

I'm also reading True Crime Addict. That one has me on the edge of my seat.

I was so wishy-washy on this, kept reading the synopsis, even looked it up online and there are so many sites about the UMASS student who went missing. I lived close-by when it happened.

Some true crime books feel like old news, but if you're enjoying it maybe I should request it.
