Ails (ailsailsbaby) | 217 comments New thread for "End of Days," the final book in the series.
Publication date: May 12, 2015.

Ails (ailsailsbaby) | 217 comments From The Chapter 5 Book Club - Q&A with Susan Ee:

"It turns out that Book 3 will be the finale of Penryn’s story. There may be other stories to tell from other perspectives, but I haven’t let myself think too much about that yet. I originally guessed it would be five books (later amended to 3-5 books), considering how big the story and world were. But in the end, it turns out that Penryn's story will be a trilogy."

Ewa... | 69 comments I can't belive that Penryn's story is ending. And all the book are so short. I hope that there will be more books in other pov (but I'll try not to cry). I hope that Penryn has kids no idea why but I just imagine her as a the best mom ever and the there's Raffe as a dad ♡

Ails (ailsailsbaby) | 217 comments It's really hard to believe we only have 7 months to gather ourselves. :( What if Penryn and Raffe finally kissed again and confessed their true feelings for each other but in the end they had to go their seperate ways? I could imagine Raffe saying something like "In some parallel world, there's a Raffe who can tell you he loves you and be together with you. But in this universe, it can't be."

If this happens, I will wallow in a fit of disparity.

Even though I'm not emotionally ready for this book to end, I'm really excited to see the synopsis/blurb. Surely it will give us some hints as to what will happen in this book!

drowningmermaid | 47 comments I think I always get nervous about series ending. At least, series that I follow. I try to keep an open mind, (anyone else think Mockingjay was just fine-- just surprising) but there's always things I don't expect. All I really hope is that the ending is logical, and answers all the legitimate questions that the series asks, and at least punishes the baddies...

I admit, losing two books makes me fear for either P or R, because a death at the end of a five-book series would feel a bit more like a betrayal than a three-book series.

But... there's definitely stuff I want to see.

Mel (lemonie) | 75 comments Guys I don't know what I will do if they don't get their HEA! I know sometimes its good to go with the opposite - I just don't know how Susan is going to make it feel real and not contrived if they do have an HEA - after she has said all along that Penryn is a human and as Raffe is an Angel (and I can't ever see him falling - wouldn't fit his personality) I think Ails your thinking might be along the right track (lets hope not!) The only thing that gives me hope is that Dandelion asked Susan a question in the Chapter 5 Q & A about whether it was possible Penryn could become a Warrior Angel and Susan replied cryptically that anything is possible! I am just clinging onto that little teaser! Still don't think Penryn will become an Angel though - so any thoughts on that comment from Susan, you guys? Ahhhh I don't want this series to end!!!

Dandelion | 39 comments hi Mel

i suppose most of us here would like to see a HEA for the beloved "Raffryn" :)))) Susan has already made some impossibles become possible, for instance, Penryn can wield Pooky-bear; and Paige can still keep her sanity after being altered into a killing machine. Let's not give up hope so soon :)))

I won't... I am still rooting for them both... the great thing is that Susan keeps us all hanging in suspense because we can't figure out how the hell they are going to be together when it seems impossible - but as the lady says "Nothing is impossible!"

Dandelion | 39 comments yes, you are right, Mel ~ as Susan has revealed that there are six versions of ending, she definitely has a way to keep us on our toes ~ i hope Book 3 will tell us everything about Dee & Dum; where do the voices and visions of Penryn's mother come from? the whereabouts of Gabriel, Penryn's father, and most important, God? can Paige and other child victims become human again?......

I know, there are so many loose ends to tie up - I want to know what Layla was to Raffe - I am sure there will be spin off novellas or another book using familiar characters even if the story line is different - Wouldn't it be great if she wrote one in Raffe POV of the back history between him and Joshua and Beliel and Uriel and Layla?. It would also be fantastic if she releases the outtakes that she has written from Raffe POV in WA - I loved the whole Pooky Bear visions that Penryn has where she can see and hear what Raffe is thinking, such a clever way of doing a POV from a main character!
There is much to look forward to, I think!

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments Late post in this forum (if anyone still reads it):

I feel like one book isn't enough to tie up all the loose endings! I had this crackpot theory, in which Penryn's mum is actually somehow seeing a real demon, or her visions have some other, plot-connected meaning, but no I feel like there's hardly enough pages left to solve all the already open questions, let alone open up a plot twist...

And I just don't see a way for Raffe and Penryn to be together. I don't think Pen would become an angel, the books are too much about how she's human and proud of that (also remember that time when Susan Ee was asked whether Pen is Asian or not and she said that it's just important that Pen is human?). I also don't see Raffe falling, like Mel said, it isnt' in his personality.
So there are so many things impossible about their relationship. Like the fact that Raffe's immortal and Pen isn't. She'll die eventually of age. Or that angels don't live on earth (where do they live though? Heaven?). And of course the whole Nephilim and helllions thing.

I'm so desperately hoping that Susan Ee will find a way for P and R, because they truly belong to each other and are my all time OTP, but I don't see a way how... Maybe she'll surprise us with a super awesome ending that we all couldn't think of!

Laura *Little Read Riding Hood* (lauralittlereadridinghood) | 100 comments I say don't panic until we read the last book. I am sure it will be great, but we all know series that ended with a flop. With the way books 1 and 2 went I don't see that happening, but I for one am witholding judgement. And I promise to let you know how it goes (with no spoilers) if I get an early copy again. Fingers crossed!

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments You're right of course, Susan Ee has so far given us no reason to think that she won't end this series in an awesome way. Until now, she hasn't disappointed! Angelfall and WA were both fantastic books, I can't decide which one I like better (I'm leaning toward WA, though).

So, fingers crossed that she continues to amaze us.

I do, however, think that Gabriel isn't actually dead. Because his body has never been found, and in WA we found out, that angels aren't killed by bullets. So why would the archangel be different?

I'm pretty sure he's going to show up at the end of the series like

LOL I really love your GIF! And yes I am sure Gabriel has a big part to play in all this if he does indeed surprise us with his return!

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

I really can't imagine the ending so I hope Susan Ee has something up her sleeve (is it possible she could hiding the book up there too?). Ya know, I'm just hoping Penryn and Raffe both end up together, no matter how impossible.

Samantha (sammymayga) | 4 comments When it was first announced that there might be 8 books, I had really hoped that it meant that Penryn and Raffe's story would continue through the 7 year apocalypse. Totally bummed that it'll only be a trilogy.

I wonder if Penryn's mom is some sort of supernatural and her visions and actions aren't really all that crazy--they just seems crazy in a human world.

HurrikanKathrina wrote: "I do, however, think that Gabriel isn't actually dead. Because his body has never been found, and in WA we found out, that angels aren't killed by bullets. So why would the archangel be different?"

YESSS! I totally never got why the other angels think Gabriel is dead. Like, guys, you just dug your friends out of a bombed out hotel after they were shot and they were perfectly fine. And why would humans, living in a the most holiest of cities, shoot down an angel they believe is the 'Messenger of God' in the first place? Angels: super powerful and pretty, but not too bright. And A+ gif usage!

Nicky | 8 comments Something weird is definitely going on with Penryn's mom. Maybe she is one of the angel-human offspring or something that would allow Penryn's lineage to be part angel (so that her and Raffe can be together). This would explain why the sword stuck with her for so long and why she was able to kill that angel in the basement/lab. Her mother and sister are already effed up, so I'm just waiting to see what's wrong with Penryn.

message 21: by Hurrikan Kathrina (last edited Dec 01, 2014 02:28PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments I've always wondered if there's more to her mom's demon.
But I don't think Penryn is half angel or will turn into an angel or something like that, as so many suspect.
The reason for that is, that in the books, several time it is made clear, that Penryn is proud to be part human, that it's an essential part of the book that humans aren't as bad or low as angels think, and that Penrys likes being a daughter of man, no matter how bad their reputation is amongst the angels.

Furthermore, Susan Ee was asked which ethnos Penryn belonged to, or weather she was Asian or Caucasian, and she responded, that that didn't matter. That it only mattered that Penryn was human.
She said it was because that was what this books were about: angels fighting against humans.

And that she didn't mind which kind of human Penryn belonged to, only that she was human.

So, yeah, I think the emphasis on Penryn being human is a rather important aspect of the story's message... therefore, her turning into an angel would be disappointing, and I don't think it's what Susan Ee wanted to tell us...

But maybe I'm reading this all wrong!

Good point. The power of humanity is a really big part of the story. Which would make it an even bigger twist if Penryn turned out to not be completely human herself! Ha.
I agree with you that there is something to the whole demon thing that follows her mother.
It is probably all interrelated, but I just can't figure it out yet! grr.

message 23: by Hurrikan Kathrina (last edited Dec 03, 2014 02:58AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments haha, maybe you're right. Maybe it's like "the power of humanity, faith in humanity, blahblahblah.... oh, but Penryn, you're not really human yourself, you know that?"

I hope, however, that Susan finds a solution where Raffe stays an angel (falling isn't his style) and Penryn stays human and they can still be together! Because I need them to be together!!

I don't know what I'll do if they don't end up together... probably curl up on the ground and cry.

Edit: Oh, I also want Raffe to get his wings back. Don't get me wrong, demon wings with skythes are cool, but I just loooove feathers and white, snowy, angel wings?? So awesome!

Nicky | 8 comments Haha, I agree! They NEEED to be together! I think I will be ruined and unable to read any more YA lit if they don't find a way to make it work.

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments Totally agree! Susan Ee has probably already destroyed all YA romances for me, because there is just nothing like Raffryn out there! When I read Angelfall for the first time I was like "this is perfect! I can't believe this! They are literally perfect!"

This seriously is THE BEST YA romance couple I've met. ALL of the others seem to feature Complete Jerkface Boy meets Doe-Eyed Sap-for-Brains Girl and it's TWUWUV-INSTANTLY-FOWEVAH. Sometimes it sorta works if I suspend all disbelief, but sometimes it just makes me want to puke. There's only so much jerkface stalker I can handle, and seriously, the Universe Does Not Reward Ultranice Girls for Being Ultrasweet Stepford Girls. It's a really sick, demeaning message for both boys and girls if you think about it.

Just another thing that really, really makes Raffryn stand out.

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments Yes, you are absolutely right! Penryn especially stood out for me right at tbe beginning, because she is literally the only YA female protagonist EVER that has not annoyed me one little bit. She is just so awesome! YA needs more narrators like her. If more YA girls would be like her, I think there wouldn't be this reputation about female YA books always being stupid and obnoxious. Which often they aren't, but the female protagonists are sooo annoying and always:
- Completely innocent and inexperienced, naive virgins (and stay that until the very last book, even though they get together with the male protagonist in the first one)
- Dumb as hell
- Absolutely depended of their jack#ss boyfriends

BUT, I have to say that Raffe really stood out for me as well, because he wasn't - like you said - a total jerk, but he also wasn't one of those guys that are instantly in love with the girl.
Often I feel it's so obvious that the guy is in love with the girl and just acts as an ass because some stupid reason.

With Raffe, I got the sense that we really felt how he disliked this whole "daugher of man deal" and didn't just pretend to dislike her for some reason, but couldn't help but grow on her. And the fact that Penryn is so awesome makes it a lot more believable that someone like Raffe (because let's face it, he is a catch!) would like her. They are a great match and I think he can't help but appreaciate her intelligence and braveness and her wit.

So yeah, enough praise for these two, but I just can't help myself. Susan Ee created such deliciously un-perfect, fleshed-out, likeable characters. I'd honestly marry them both if I could :D

drowningmermaid | 47 comments Lol! They are definitely an awesome couple , and they interact in a way that actually makes me hope that they would still like each other after a honeymoon...

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments whaaat? Why? :D I think they're perfect for each other. can't really see them get married, though :D It would be weird :D

drowningmermaid | 47 comments HurrikanKathrina wrote: "whaaat? Why? :D I think they're perfect for each other. can't really see them get married, though :D It would be weird :D"

I just meant that most YA couples, from the way they talk to each other, sound like they would be doomed to a lifetime of domestic violence if they actually got married.

Raffryn... I dunno. They seem more like a team.

Laura *Little Read Riding Hood* (lauralittlereadridinghood) | 100 comments I just meant that most YA couples, from the way they talk to each other, sound like they would be doomed to a lifetime of domestic violence if they actually got married.

Ha! Personally, I'm particularly not-fond of "He's not abusive, he's protective." As Our Hero protects a girl out of any kind of personal life/ other friends.

But I REALLY HATE when Our Hero manages to tic off EVERY SINGLE RED FLAG on various "Is this a dangerous relationship?" checklists (See: http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/Abusiv... or http://www.safeplaceolympia.org/survi...)

And then somehow... I'm still supposed to be pulling for these two morons to get together FOWEVAH. (Or, I should say, three morons since there's always an obligatory love triangle.)

/rant.

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments Yes, another thing, no love triangle in Angelfall! That's refreshing! I don't think it would ever be possibel anyway, since we all knew who Penryn would choose, but hey, we knew that in Twilight all 4 books and there still was a love triangle..

drowningmermaid | 47 comments I might be the only person on this thread who wouldn't be bothered if Penryn wound up with Obi-- as long as it was executed well. I don't think ANYone could do that in just one book, though, not after two clearly Raffryn books.

drowningmermaid | 47 comments I think I've come across maybe two love triangles that I didn't hate with a capital HATE. One was the one sort of hinted at in Angelfall, the other was "Absolute Boyfriend" in which one of the heroes is an android and the other really actually is a "mere" mortal...

Hurrikan Kathrina (hurrikankathrina) | 40 comments Oh that sounds awesome, I am obsessed with androids! SO happy that I stumbled across this, definetely going to check that one out!

Okay, if Penryn would end up with Obi, I would kill myself... at least my soul. I'd be an empty shell, traumatized...

So, yeah, you get the idea :D

Polly | 38 comments I'm worried what going to happen to Raffryn in this book, don't get me wrong i love them but i can't see how they can be together, like many people have mentioned it would be out of character for raffe to become fallen and wouldn't it be a bit of a dick move on his part as he condemned his watchers to hell for loving daughters of men and now hes doing the same lol, hes been around so long as a leader of the angels, there is no doubt he loves penryn but to go choose her over his own people, to suddenly be ok with loving a daughter of man yet he was against it for so long and i don't think penryn would want him to give up everything for her, eurgh i want them to be together but i don't want him to leave the angels

Emily | 1 comments Mate... I am so excited for this book I can't even describe. I first read the series last June and just reread them today.

I want nothing more than a Penryn and Raffe ending together! But I can't see the logistics if (like you all said) Penryn clearly appreciates her 'humanness' and Raffe wouldn't fall.

Wow I'm asking a lot of Susan Ee. Still... this will be me if there isn't a Raffryn HEA.

Linnéa (linneaelfrida) As a reader I don't think that the ending is going to be as magical as we all want it to be. And don't misunderstand me now, I think that it'll be some kind of cutesy stuff but we all know that authors are vicious, mean and will do anything to make our hearts break... I don't know if Susan is placed in this 'category' but I don't think that we can have that super ending without some kind of dark horrible plot twist.
