Lauren Smith Group favorites

This is the nomination thread for the Group Favourites reading challenge. Please nominate your favourites according to the challenge description below:

This is very similar to the Deserted Island Challenge, but with a twist. Each person nominates 5 books based on these categories:

1. A favorite book
2. A favorite author
3. A favorite series
4. Favorite book titles
5. Favorite book cover

Then when everyone has nominated these 5, each person gets to choose 25 of the books/authors/1 book in the series/title/cover to read. You can choose 5 to put on a swap out list.

Rules:
* No limit to how many people can nominate, but we need atleast 12, those that nominated get to nominate again until we have 12.
* The 5 you nominate need to be written by different authors, different series etc.
* They HAVE to be books you have READ
* You can't nominate the same books/authors etc. as those who nominate before you, so you then choose your second, third etc. favorite.

* You can read one of your own nominations, but it has to be a re-read.

Nominations will close on 31 October

Justine | 18 comments Hope I understand this correctly, first time doing something like this. (Yes, the last one is a "kids" book, but I still really love the covers for all his books!)

5. The BFG by Roald Dahl The BFG by Roald Dahl

Lauren Smith Hi Justine :) Yeah, kids' books are definitely welcome! The only thing is that they have to be a minimum of 150 pages long to count for this challenge :)

I'm also not entirely sure that you can nominate a series for no.4... I assumed you 're meant to nominate 1 title, but it says favourite titles, which is confusing.

Lu, this is your challenge, can you please clarify?

Thanks! :)
There are more then 150 pages in the BFG, so yay LOL
No 4 is a bit confusing because of the plural titles. If it must just be one, then I'll change it, no problem.

message 7: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Cool :) I think Lu is out of town at the moment, but she'll check in when she comes back.

I just quickly looked, and could these people change theirs, as these have either been already nominated or the series/author has in some way:

Wendy - 3. A favorite series --- the lunar chronicles by Merissa meyer

Can anyone see anything else?

Lu, not sure if this counts. I nominated Wee Free Men and then Marlese nominated Discworld. I don't want to take Discworld off the list, but checking against the rules, I'm unsure.

Just to clarify: if you choose an author or series as part of your 25 books to read, only one book from that author or series counts towards the challenge?

So I can't read, say, 2 books by Cinda Williams Chima which means I've read 2/25 books for the challenge?

message 28: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Correct.

That is why the author or series or book by that author or part of that series, can only be nominated once! That is why I don't want repeat ones.

1 book counts for only 1 point.

message 29: by Liezel (new)

Liezel (liezkl) | 736 comments @Justine, Goodreads shows that book 4. Daimon by Jennifer L Armentrout only has 62 pages, is that right? Daimon

message 30: by Justine (new)

Justine | 18 comments @Liezel, Amazon says 89, but that is still less than what is required, so will re think of one and update my selection.
Thanks for picking that up!

message 31: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I've updated the list of options to include all the nominations so far. However, there a few queries/notes:

@Liezel: Apparently there are quite a few books called The Language of Flowers. I didn't want to guess, so please can you give me the author?

@Jennifer: Is the O'Malley series the one by Dee Henderson?

Note/Question: Jennifer has nominated The Lord of the Rings as her favourite novel. It is considered a single (massive) novel in three parts, so the nomination is fine, but I assume then that if you choose that you have to read the entire thing. You can't just read The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers or The Return of the King. Otherwise, it would have to be nominated as a series. Lu, correct me if I'm wrong?

@Wendy: You need to nominate another series as The Lunar Chronicles was ruled out when Lu nominated Cinder.

@Marlese: You need to nominate another series as Discworld was ruled out when Varla nominated The Wee Free Men.

message 32: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Yay thanks Lauren!

Lauren you are correct, unless Jennifer states which book of the LOTR's trilogy is her fav, the whole series, which comes as one book has to be read. So she can either change it to one of them, or keep it as is.

Jax, is your nomination of Death du Jour the book by Kathy Reichs? There is more than one book with that title. But if it is Reichs then unfortunately Marlese's Reichs nomination no longer counts as Jax's came first.
