It was genius in Lucas to spot that the comic-book structure of serials would lend themselves precisely to a modern revival on big screens.

I wouldn't doubt that your ear is accurate re: Williams' possibly following suit.

After all, he re-used the '40s Superman radio serial theme for Reeves/Hackman/Brando. Clever as hell.

I dunno. In general I hate the Luc/Berg era --the start of 'regurgitated culture' --but I gotta admit they stole from excellent troves of old treasures.

Bruce Yeah. For Lucas, I prefer Star Wars. I’m not a big fan of Spielberg as a whole, but there’s a few individual films I like. Not the Indiana Jones films so much.

I'm glad to see that another of us is watching serials. They are such fun and you can often spot known actors in bit parts. I am now on Episode 6 (of 12) of Red Circle................delightful. I may try the Flash Gordon series next.

I have heard of Spy Smasher but have not seen it or read the comic book version.

Jill Hutchinson (bucs1960) | 3876 comments Last night I finished the 12 episode serial Daredevils of the Red Circle (1939). It really was pretty well done but, of course, corny. Bruce Bennett and Carole Landis had very little dialogue and the main "daredevil" who got all the lines was Charles Quigley(?).
I will probably watch another serial next month since the episodes are only 15 minutes long.

Well done, just the same.

Of course Bruce is also in 1938's 'Fighting Devil Dogs'
