Jannelies (living between hope and fear) | 329 comments I was just re-reading this thread and I noticed that many people just say 'science fiction', or 'fantasy'. But hey, those genres go way deeper than you might think! It's not all 'aliens wanting to destroy the earth'. On the contrary.
Read Project Hail Mary for a fabulous story about an earthling and an alien getting to know each other well and working together. There is a lot of science in it, but also a lot of humour.
Or try J.G. Ballard, who wrote (besides the famous Empire of the Sun the SF novel High-Rise in which he paints what happens when a whole city has to live in just one building... it's very interesting from a sociological point of view.
I could go on for hours ;-)

Me, I will never read a book with a naked and tattooed man on the cover but for the rest? I have a very eclectic taste and just as with food, I think it's important to try and have a small taste of different things before deciding wheter you like it or not.

Sasha Taylor | 4 comments I do not read fantasy books at all, not my type. I also am not a romance book person. I mainly stick to thrillers, crime, mystery, suspense, etc.

What you described is exactly why I don’t read those. As your description doesn’t gel with me either lol.

Colby S | 9 comments I’m not really a fan of Romance, Fantasy, or Sci Fiction books.

Arnold Kanarek | 20 comments I don't read Romance or Sci-fi. I am in my sixties and growing up Sci-fi and fantasy were not so popular. I am a teacher and Fantasy is the most popular genre with my students. Part of the fascination for fantasy/sci-fi was built up by the popularity of the Harry Potter series.

If we asked this question to pre-teens and teens, I think their answers would be the opposite.

message 1013: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (debssweet) I rarely read romance novels, sci fi and fantasy.

Valerie Book Valkyrie For me the genre is not as important as the writing itself. I was never a "thriller" reader untill I read Stephen King. Popular "Romance" novels do not appeal to me but I think it is due to the quality of the writing exhibited in that genre, which partially defines the genre, aka bodice ripper. I'd like to see SK launch a good bodice ripper!

Serenity Ontario (purplegoth) | 6 comments I'll read anything, but I don't like strong porn, strong drug use and abuse. I have dealt enough with that in real life, I don't need to read it.

❃A.J❃ (bibliophagist) | 149 comments Self help. I will occasionally read memories and biographies but I hate self help! It feels like the author is ordering me around. The only self help book that I liked was The Alchemist.

message 1017: by Kendra (new)

Kendra HD | 1 comments Hmmm, I’m not huge on romance. I read two romance books this summer, just trying to get out of my comfort zone, and they were pretty good. It’s just not really my thing. I like the terrible endings and the thrills 🤣
